New Impala will continue to be more expensive than Taurus, less than 300.

So typically GM: come in at an unrealistic price and hope to fleece the fanbois and then move to incentives and cheap financing.

Good luck in the non-fleet market with this thing.

I'm surprised it's more than the Taurus...will have to look at similar configurations.

Still cant believe that a car of this size is offered with a naturally aspirated 4 banger and some sort of half assed hybrid system.....The 2L turbo, sure.
Keep the change you filthy animal.

It does offer data security to prevent pesky valet attendants from stealing your contact list.

Like I said, important as most of these will be rentals and a lot of hotels and airports do have valet parking.

I have only ever driven one Impala. Mtl->TO->Mtl   Nice car i thought...with its 350 V8 ( or maybe it was a 305)  Seemed neither too weak nor too powerful. IIRC one tank each way.  This was the first of the "downsized" full sized cars.  At about 65c a gallon it worked well. BRING BACK THAT CAR with modern brakes, tires stability, tranny etc. but apart from swapping the carb for FI leave the rest alone.
There is hardly anything in the world that someone can’t make a little worse and sell a little cheaper and he who considers price alone is this man's lawful prey.

It's good GM opted to still offer the V6 option and not go with a turbo 4. It will cater to the loyal GM customers and other ppl who won't have a 4 cyl in a mid size family sedan. However I don't care for the small side windows and an overweight barge look. For the price there are more refined options, such as Accord V6 which won't drop in price like a rock a year later, when GM announces incentives on this car.

A buddy of mines parents had a mid to late 80's Caprice, swapped in a TBI 350, full exhaust and I think the cop tires, cop suspension  ;D That thing would go down the highway like an absolute dream. I dont really remember the mileage but it didnt cost us a hell of a lot to go from Calgary to Lake Louise, Sunshine, Fernie or any other ski hills......Im with you TPL....bring back the real Impala.

This Impala uses the XTS platfom and slots in above the Malibu. It's pretty large.

I was quite impressed with the interior build quality of the Impala when I sat in it at the Autoshow.  The rear seats had just as much room as the limo like room found in the Passat.  Was happy not to see the high belt lines like in the Ford Taurus.  Am surprised that the 2.5L is being offered.  It is an adequate engine in the Malibu, but predict it will be under strain in a vehicle that weighs 400lbs more.  It should be the 2.0L turbo, and the current V6.

The trunk looks bigger than the Lacrosse (biggest downfall of the Lacrosse).  When comparing the prices to the Ford Taurus, it is slightly more expensive, but it's hard to judge, since we don't know the features we are getting.  When comparing the Impala prices to the Lacrosse, the Lacrosse is bargain, and holds it's resalve value a little better.

If it rides nice it may find itself on my short list of cars to replace my Maxima, really leaning towards a big comfy sedan with all the highway miles I drive every year. Absolutely no 4cyl for me thanks.

GM just announced that they paid Akerson 11.1 Million USD for 2012 and this is what he came up.  This will not be the rental queen like the Impala we all know because GM was selling them for cheap.  Won't be used as Police vehicles either.

Losers in all this:   Canadian and Ontario taxpayers.

Big Losers in all this:  Those Oshawa workers.

Obviously production will move to Michigan sooner than later.

"........ just $145 more than the 2013 Impala it replaces." wow like this car sold in droves and had much merit. Come on now when do articles stop being manufacturers sales fluff and become more about unbiased reviews ?

Not really an article but more of a news flash.  Appropriate since it is in the news section, no?

If you drive so much on the highway, why not a modern diesel powered vehicle?  You'll get great fuel efficiency.

Not the fuel economy I seek, like a solid quiet car that rides nice. The miles just tick away. I had a Jetta TDI for about a year, I liked the car and effieciency, wife hated how it got tossed around on the highway.
