My main problem with Argo was the ending.

Yup.  Also thought Argo was pretty mediocre.

I have nothing against the Ben man.  Do want to see Gone Girl

The character he plays in Good Will Hunting is pretty minor, the movie would still be great without him.  The real stars are Robin Williams and Matt Damon.

True, but he's still good.   Goodwill Hunting was his and Damon's project, showing real skill in making movies, not just being in them.

Watch Gigli.  Let us know how you like it.

FWIW, Affleck was on Real Time with Bill Maher this past Friday.

He also got thrown out of our local casino in the summer.

Great flick IMO.

If you haven't watched it yet, check out There Will Be Blood.

Did you notice there is no music in the background for the entire film. Awesome movie, think I need to watch it again.

I'm sure there are many good/great actors that did crap movies.  Same with being thrown out of better clubs.  I don't care about the personal lives, I'm only looking to be entertained.

If you know about Affleck, he didn't get tossed because he's a bad guy.  He got tossed because he's an advantage player.  And casinos don't like that...they only like to win.

Yes..I look to be entertained also...which is why I don't usually watch Affleck.  :)

Excellent poker player too.  And is a blackjack card counter.  VERY tough to do in the ~6 deck shoes they use.  Takes lots of skill.  Counting cards isn't illegal, but the casinos will ask you to leave if they suspect you of it or if you have a reputation for doing it.  Casinos hate to lose.

If you want to read something interesting, Phil Ivey is in lawsuits totaling $20 million dollars against 2 casinos for using his edge sorting skills...also not illegal.  So he beats the casinos to the tune of $20 million...and they get mad and decide they aren't paying him/want their money back.  He is now suing them.

Casinos LOVE to take your money...but hate paying it out.

Twenty Feet from Stardom (2013)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2396566/

Quote
The backup singer exists in a strange place in the pop music world; they are always in the shadow of the feature artists even when they are in front of them in concert while they provide a vital foundation for the music. Through interviews with veterans and concert footage, the history of these predominately African-American singers is explored through the rock era. Furthermore, special focus is given to special stand outs who endeavored to make a living in the art burdened with a low profile and more personal career frustrations, especially those who faced the very different challenge of singing in the spotlight themselves.

Really enjoyed this movie and learned some new (not so nice) things about the music industry.

Sounds interesting.  Another good watch of that type is Standing In The Shadows of Motown, which the story of the Funk Brothers who were the musicians responsible for the Motown sound in its heyday.

Agree Shadows was also a great movie. Really think you will like Twenty Feet. Another one I haven't seen yet but heard it was good and on the music theme is

Muscle Shoals (2013)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2492916/

Quote
Located alongside the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals, Alabama is the unlikely breeding ground for some of America's most creative and defiant music. Under the spiritual influence of the 'Singing River' as Native Americans called it, the music of Muscle Shoals changed the world and sold millions upon millions of copies. At its heart is Rick Hall who founded FAME Studios. Overcoming crushing poverty and staggering tragedies, he brought black and white together in Alabama's cauldron of racial hostility to create music for the generations while giving birth to the 'Muscle Shoals Sound' and 'The Swampers'. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Percy Sledge, Gregg Allman, Clarence Carter, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Bono, and others bear witness to Muscle Shoals' magnetism, mystery, and why it remains influential today.

Watched "A Most Wanted Man" last night. It's an adaptation of the John le Carre novel and stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Was never widely released in NA but it's really, really good.

Speaking of Hoffman, we watched 'Moneyball' on the weekend. Really enjoyed it, had never heard of sabermetrics and how that has so recently changed baseball.

Dang he looked old though.

Saw Gone Girl Saturday night.  Was shocked the house was packed, since it has been out 4 weeks i think.  Pretty much every seat in the theatre was taken.

It sucked.  Another over-hyped movie that didn't deliver.

I thought the first half was actually pretty good, but could have easily been shortened by half-an-hour.  The killer was the laughably stupid last 30 minutes.
Was also filmed deliberately dark which aggravated me throughout.  I didn't have any sympathy or connection to the two main characters, so didn't care at all what happened to either.
Even my wife who usually lives for this type of movie was disappointed.   Lots of people loved this movie... we sure didn't.

Should have Gone to see St. Vincent instead...

Best Horror Movies (Rotten Tomatoes)

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/guides/best-horror-movies/

The Dead Zone?  Misery?  Really?  Sorry..those aren't horror movies.

As I aside, I have been going through a list of "very scary" horror movies I saw on another site.  I continue to be unimpressed.  I don't scare easily, so maybe it's just me.

In the last week I've watched:

Paranormal Activity
Mama
Insidious
Splinter

Anyone have some recommendations that (hopefully) will scare the crap out of me?

I agree, some of those are more thriller but it seems horror is just used to cover all the bases now days.

I liked Død snø (Dead Snow)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1278340/

If you have a great subwoofer The Conjuring sounds amazing, worth watching (once) for that alone.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1457767/

I might check out Frankenstein's Army which gets mixed reviews but is suppose to have great sound.

There is a good thread over at AVS called October fun: 31 days of Horror, Blood, Guts and Gore! (and zombies, too....) that is worth looking through for ideas.
