Selection in the theaters SUCKS right now.

Transformers?  Yuck, no way.

Edge of Tomorrow?  Saw it, and it was okay.

There's a bunch of kid/teen movies, not interested.

22 Jump Street is supposed to be actually good/funny, but not worth the $$ for the big screen.

Haven't been to the movies this year... And I have gift certificates!

I heard today that box office revenues are way off this year compared to last summer...maybe it's a good entry point to buy Cineplex.

Edit: 5-year chart as of this afternoon...

I don't think so. IMO its the beginning of the end for people paying these inflated prices to see a movie at the theater. The future is watching on a personal device or through a service at home.

watched "god bless america". one of those take it too far black comedies... the main premise was quite appealing. basically a dying guy hates what america has turned into and starts a killing spree... but not just any killing spree, one against reality tv stars and the type...

while i am all for removing the spotlight on untalented people just because it makes the watchers feel better or smarter than the subject, it was a bit much.

i watched the interviews after to see if it was meant as a statement... but bocat goldthwait(sp?) said it was pure satire.. he is vegan and can't even think about killing a cow, so he has no malice against these people. meh. it wasn't a bad movie actually.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Watched 'Her' last weekend.  Was not impressed at all.  Reminded me of 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,' another piece of navel-gazing, angst-ridden crap.

Was expecting more from this. In the end it was ejected after 50% through.

I know, right?  You didn't miss anything, by the way.  I suffered through the whole thing, hoping that something would make me laugh at some point.  Nope. :banghead:

I didn't know anything about it. I was quit surprised, and liked it very much.

I posted about it a few pages back (post #625).  I would recommend seeing all his movies; I've seen 5 and enjoyed them all.

Went to see Lucy at the theater tonight.  Good movie, good amount of suspense and interest while actually having a story and some guns.

Also watched lone survivor last night I really enjoyed it, was well done, although perhaps a little over the top it was entertaining.  Great sound track too, house was shaking.

Family outing to "Guardians of the Galaxy" last night.  Surprisingly good.

"Lone Survivor" was very well done.  Went a long way to conveying the chaos and brutality of the engagement.  The book is excellent.

Interesting to see a new Mad Max movie coming out.  Mad Max was low budget and good.  Road Warrior was actually well done and thanks to the success of Mad Max, the budget was large enough to add lots of good effects.  Beyond Thunderdome blew chunks.

Last night we watched a great drama on Netflix starring Geoffrey Rush and featuring Donald Sutherland called "Best Offer."  Rush plays an aging bachelor high-end auctioneer (think Sotheby's) who falls in love with a gorgeous young women who suffers from acute agoraphobia.  Their relationship begins when she calls him to request his assistance in disposing of her parents' antiques and artwork after their deaths...  What appears to be a touching love story between two very lonely people takes some amazing twists...
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

Finally saw Kickass 2 yesterday. Local store doesn't seem to carry it because it says a.s.s. on it I guess. I liked it.  If you liked The Piano you probably won't like this.

heh.. nice. i don't think there is a lot of people who watch those two as back-to-back at the drive in... i liked that one too (kickass 2). very comic style... entertaining...

i was bored and watched an odd one... "knights of badassdom"... trying to be a "b" horror type comedy... like army of darkness, american werewolf, etc. poking fun at "LARP"ers and does a decent job of it. steve zahn, peter dinklage, a few tv guys and gals. for what it was it was actually ok. over the top gore, but not in a slasher way. i laughed a few times.

got me thinking about more b movies, so i grabbed "iron sky"... basically the stoy is about "moon nazis", so we'll see how that one is... i'm sure my wife won't be joining me to watch.
