What is the appeal of the Murano given its price? It doesn't have the utility of the competitors and is priced relatively high. It's lack of cargo is the biggest drawback to me. A Murano vs Tiguan would be an interesting comparison for similar money.
I think the "platinum" edition is easily the worst value proposition in the Murano line (like most "high end" trims). Go down to the SV or SL trims and it makes far more sense - VERY well equipped for $35 - 40K. But Nissan has to stop packaging the navigation in only the top-level trim - I have no use for it, but for those that do this could be a dealbreaker.
ANd while the Murano doesn't have the hugest hatch area, it's still a pretty good size - close to 900L, IIRC. A Tiguan is a fair bit smaller, for both cargo area (~600L I think) and passenger space. It's far closer to the Rogue in space, Murano would be similar to the Tuaraeg. The Murano may not be optimized for practicality (i.e. space), but it's still very functional - especially when compared to its FX or EX cousins from Infiniti!
But I wonder if the new Pathfinder is likely to steal some Murano sales from those folks looking for maximum space. And if the Rogue is ever redesigned (it's bloody well past due!), there could be pressure from below as well. Sort of like Ford with the Edge - cannabalized by the Escape from below and the Explorer from above.
