Wow, I had no idea about this, but you are correct. It is a 13% RST (retail sales tax), which is entirely remitted to the Ontario government.

But if nobody bought new cars, there would be no used cars for other people.

I bought my 2009 GTI new and have no regrets. Plus I wasn't interested in a 2007 or older model.

Absolutely true and I want to thank you for taking one for the team. Unfortunately these days most 3 year old vehicles are still in the clutches of dealers. I have an aversion to depreciation and paying GST on my vehicles. ;D

Where do you live that you don't have to pay GST on private sales?

Alberta

SK too.  Huge advantage when selling privately.

Ontario raise the tax rate on private car sales to 13 per cent (from 8 per cent) on July 1, 2010 the same date the HST came into effect.

Consumers are being told the tax rate was adjusted because of the HST. In fact, it has no relation to the HST. It’s entirely a 13 per cent provincial sales tax. All communication from the Ontario government about this change is hiding behind the HST banner. Just another way to Fack over Ontario.

I can't believe that most Canadians just roll over and take it when their Province/Feds try to make them pay GST/PST on a private sale. Do they also police garage sales to make sure they get their cut of those used $20 skates? ;D

The GST was originally paid on the entire vehicle. A ny attempt to collect it on a private sale is just a money grab.

Of course it is, but what choice to we have other than "roll over and take it"?  ???

Exactly.  Every single time a used car is sold here in NB over the life of it being on the road, it's taxed.  Fair?  Nope!  Any choice we have in the matter?  Nope.

I love the styling of this car.  I wouldn't want it to look like a Mazda6 or Fusion or Malibu or Chrysler 200 or Sonata.  They are looking old already.  Audi is predicated on it's timeless classic , yet elegant styling.  I'll take mine in blue.

Question:  I know the S4 isn't coming with a manual option in Canada, will any of the A4's?

I'd settle for a good Dual clutch and if the one they'd put in an Audi is as good as the VW DSGs or...wishing here... the Porsche one in the Macan  I might prefer that to a manual as I get old and creaky.

No manuals referenced in any of the press materials provided, nor mentioned at all on the drive event.

The dual clutch was *okay*.  The 8-speed Tiptronic was very, very good (think 8 spd ZF that BMW uses).

You're aware it IS the 8-spd ZF right?

^^ I have changed from a hater of slushboxes to an admirer after 18 months with the ZF 8 speed but I would still prefer a DSG/DCT for all the low speed lack of smoothness.  I still sense a delay as the torque converter gets hooked up, that is slower than the DSG I had in a GTI.

Just pointing out:
ZF's 8-speed unit ≠ its 9-speed unit at all.  8>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>9

reviving this one...to comment on the ugliness of the interior - a la Honda HRV, with all those vents.
