Just perusing the specs and noted a $300 surcharge for the metallic pearl paint.  I know Nissan isn't alone here, but when you're sking over $100k for any car, it seems pretty bush-league to me to nickle and dime on the paint selection.  Just include whatever colours you offer in the price, for crying out loud.

Fair point, but if this were a Porsche, that paint would probably cost 10 times as much, because German engineering is superior to everything, don't you know.
I used to work here.

Not in Canada it is not.  There were a couple then they killed it fast

Technically brilliant, and so much more accessible performance than anything near it's price, but I dunno, I never really warmed to it. ???

True enough.

Not in Canada it is not.  There were a couple then they killed it fast

but you still can buy one
for example
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-Ariel-Atom-2-SC-street-legal-only-one-I-know-of-in-Canada-W0QQAdIdZ374533463

LOL that's the ONLY one in Canada.  Seriously!  My buddy owned one for a few years, he just sold it.  Not street legal.  This is the only one that is street legal and he wants a fortune for it.  Nobody buys a track car for that much money LOL

I am just a sucker for Japanese Sports cars. This is definitely on my shopping list for my next toy. I'm still tuning my STI for sub 12 sec 1/4 mile but it will never be as damn sexy as the GT-R.

Dude, share your build thread. WTH!!!!!!!!

If you have the patience to wade through countless upgrades and tunes then here it is.

LOL after 4 years it's still work in progress but my hat is off to Mike Botti who has been patiently working with me for over a year to get the e-tune right that no one else could. I'm hoping to give a stock GT-R a run for it's money soon at the drag strip. This autumn  ;D

Good honest review. Remarkable car with amazing tech and resulting performance – you'd be the track king (if you can drive). Good value to boot.

But it's style-less so I'd pass. You all can blow by me on the highway in your GT-Rs but I'd prefer to scrape together a few more dollars and drive a plain old 911.

If I won the lotto, the GT-R is the first thing I'd buy.  No, I'd get two.  One to keep stock, and the other would be a P850 as fast as they could mod it.

Reception like a Porsche or BMW, if what you meant is perception, by the vast amount of the know nothing about cars John Q. Public, no, will it show its tailights to any model from those two manufacturers, yes.

The GT-R may not be a household name for performance among the older, non-enthusiast boomer and older crowd, but everyone who's ever played a video racing game or read a car magazine knows it and at least respects it, if doesn't completely go nuts for it. And despite Porsche's respected tradition, you won't get people whipping out camera phones or gathering around it in a parking lot... it's too 'been there, done that'... the GT-R is rare and special, and has, quite possibly an even more passionate following than Porsche... I love Porsches and all, but the GT-R blows my mind—that much performance, for that little money... and i love how it simply doesn't give a flying piston for refinement or delicacy—it's just perfect in it's rawness and all the noises and clunks and roughness it has, much like a Mustang.

and yeah, this is an easy lottery pick.

Quite right!  It was the same with my Supra.  Even going to watch races at Mid-Ohio or Indy with it, people would snap photos of it while we we driving on the highway!  It was one of those "legendary" cars from the 90s that everybody knew about and looked at in awe.  Ditto GT-R, NSX, and RX-7FD.

Here's a pic of me street racing a GT-R.  Notice all the people line up along the fence to watch.  Sadly, they didn't come to see my mad driving skills.  :(  They came to see and hear the CARS.

^ Cool pic Ron, who won?   ;)

If I had a little over a $100k to spend on a car, the GT-R would be my top choice without having to think about it for one second.  I LOVE this car and everything that it's about.  I'd rather have it equipped with a 6spd manual but I'm sure that I could still have some fun driving it.  :)

It doesn't have the sexy looks that a Ferrari or Aston Martin does, but I think it looks mean and aggressive as hell.   8)

To me, the lack of "beauty" is one of the appealing things about this car.  It's like Nissan said "make very single piece of this car serve one purpose: to deliver a$$ kicking performance."

For sure.  It looks robotic or anime menacing IMO...

all the back and forth about GTR vs Porsche, etc reminds me of a bumper sticker on my buddy's new Jeep...it says "You can go faster, but I can go anywhere"...i thought it was funny. :)

GT-R is probably at the top of my list as well for purchases should I ever win the lottery. I've been a Corvette guy forever - I still love them - I'm all about the value the Corvette brings to the table - and of course the looks. But nowadays the top dog Vette is at least as much as this thing - and don't get me wrong the ZR1 and Z06 are nice looking cars - but nobody looks twice at a Corvette - EVERYONE will stop and watch one of these things go by.

Skyline/GT-R has a huge heritage as well - most are just a little ignorant of the fact that other parts of the world CAN build world class sports cars as well.
My other Honda is an MP4-31!
