With all the traction aids and winter tires, there's no reason a person couldn't run a Corvette through winter.

http://www.automobilemag.com/features/columns/1403-2014-chevrolet-corvette-stingray-bites-back-at-winter/

Around here, traction isn't as much of an issue as ground clearance, and the Corvette would suffer, just as a GT-R, Carrera or any other low slung car.

That would be a huge issue around here too. I don't care what kind of winter tires you are sporting if all 4 of them are off the ground because you only have 4" of ground clearance.

same reason why the Fiat 500 suffered in the winter...with a mere 3.5in that thing got stuck easily.

I'd hope the GT-R would be a better year around vehicle - doesn't it have 5in of ground clearance?

Around here we get ice ruts that your average midsize sedan has problems clearing, not a traction issue, a dragging expensive greasy bits across rock hard ice ridges. I doubt that a Camry has less clearance than a GT-R.
Lighten up Francis.....

Yea...it depends where you live.  But there's no way a Z06 in RWD guise even with snows is putting the power down like an AWD car.  It's astonishing how amazing AWD sports cars can lay the power down in winter.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Agreed.  Even if the snow is scrubbing the belly of the car, having claws pulling and pushing you along means you're less likely to stop the momentum and get stuck.

The only hindrance the Corolla has around here is related to ground clearance.  As long as the tires can reach the ground well enough, it gets around pretty well all winter.  It's when there is a snow fall and then the temps drop, and we get deep frozen ruts.  The city plows most of the main routes, but as soon as you're into residential streets, bang, you're stuck.  Luckily, the 'Rolla hasn't been stuck yet, but there is no way a Vette or car with similar clearance can get around.

I know some 911 C4 guys that equip their cars for the winter and do drive them, but have an alternative ride for those periods when the side streets are deep and difficult.  Last winter, I was on one street where the HL struggled.  Then I spent a bunch of time pulling everyone else to the main road.

There was one street that got wind blasted with drifts and we were about to drive onto it, and saw a 4X4 Taco high centered, so we didn't even try.

The XV and the Outbacks have all ended up dragging on out street at one point or another. They all had just under 9" of ground clearance.

Also XV and the Outbacks would be a great garage band name.  ;D

Whoa.  Not many 10sec showroom cars out there.  For a car that capable when the road bends, that's incredible performance.

At the track, the car would be faster than a LOT of bikes - even fast ones, thanks to the skill required to launch and control a bike.  Two wheelers will quickly learn to keep their wallets in their pockets when a Z-06 is looking to play.

RWD too.

Yeah....the first thing that came to my mind on street rubber. I want another tester to validate that sub 3 second time.

Great job Chevy!

You mean apart from the styling?  As I've said many times before, I prefer the rawness of the C6 Z06 to the C7 cars and their myriad of electro-nannies.  It's a preference thing.  If I want nannies, I'd prefer to have AWD with those nannies so I can hoon it up in the winter/inclement weather.  That being said, the C7 is one of the best bangs for the buck going....I've also said that many times before too.  I'm sure the Z06 will be no different.  But the C7 just isn't for me.

BTW...I wonder how much slower the manual is as that time was done with the auto?

Also..I thought it would be quicker with the HP and weight advantage over both the GT-R and 911.  It must be traction limited.

The manual is slower. The times are posted in the article....which you obviously didn't read

No...I read the stats from another article, so I didn't bother reading it.  Can only read so many articles about the Z06's 0-60 time.

BTW....the C7 Z06 was at the 'Ring yesterday...and promptly crashed.   :'(

According to Jalopnik the new automatic 8-speed doesn't suck. Two quotable quotes:

Let the Stingray know you wanna get nuts, and it gets nuts. No messing with sport mode settings or fancy buttons and switches; you just go fast. Boom.

When you're in it, you're ready to give that guy in the Italian exotic a sideways look that says "Do it. I facking dare you, do it. Do it and see what happens."

Read in Road & Track today that the shift times from beginning to pull the paddle to return of full power are slightly faster than the 911's PDK. That's quite impressive.

Still would get the manual though.

A bit out of my snack bracket but you have to appreciate the performance of this thing.  Reasonable price too for what is basically a supercar.

Reasonable price too for what is basically a supercar.

This.

GM hasn't just replaced the ZR-1 and Z-06.  They've come to the game with one of the most capable cars on the planet for what other makes charge for entry level machines.  As much as I love the Cayman, knowing that I'd passed up on the 650hp Z-06 that can serve time at NASA for astronaut g-load training would drive me nuts.

The Z-07 package looks like a road-going GTLM racer.  Unlike the previous models, this car looks as fast as it is.  Wow.  Can't wait to see one.

Brutal straight line performance?  Check.

Incredible handing?  Check.

Purposeful cockpit that belongs in an $80K car?  Check.

Subtle Corvette styling cues that pay homage to previous cars?  Check.

True three pedal manual available?  CHECK!  (but a lightning fast auto for those that want the fastest car possible?  check.)
