MT and others seem to give the new 8-speed automatic in the Corvette a thumbs up. Says it shifts faster that Porsche's PDK (albeit not as smoothly), is faster accelerating than the manual, will be available on the Z06 and that over 60% of C7 sales have been with the auto.

At least it's only ~60%...  testament to the true fan base of corvettes.  not all overly-tanned, gold chain wearing, multi ring wearing, red necks or barbies....

Porsche's manual take rate seems to be bit less than 50%..  probably close to corvette's

Ferrari's...  when they had one (last one was 430..now they have NO manuals) was 1%...

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

When the Lambo Hurican was released without a manual, I think they said the take rate for the M/T-equipped Gallardo was about the same.  Most supercars with auto options are probably in the same range.  Though I parked next to an R8 at London Drugs last year, and complimented the driver having the 6MT!

I've been to track events where guys show up with big dollar exotics (Lambos, etc) and I've yet to see one owner that could drive at all.  We had an autocross with a pretty long/open course that allowed the big-hp cars some room to go, finally stopping the whining of the powerful car crowd.  Well, guess what?  The LP-550 was still at the bottom of the rankings, bested by everything no matter how little hp they had.

The owner turned over the keys to one of the better drivers and the car posted a seriously fast time.  The owner was at least a little humble after that.

WOW!!  C7 Z06 is up 400 pounds over the outgoing C6 Z06.  Weight is 3524...even more than the C6 ZR1.  :o  No word on what the weight of the Z07 will be.  Pricing for the Z06 is $79K USD.  No word on pricing for the full track star Z07.

And while I'm sure it will be a cruise missile....this gives me another reason to say "I'd still rather have a C6 Z06".  The C6 Z06 is more pure, raw..and lighter too.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

My money?  I know a couple C5 Z-06 owners that have turned their cars into unreal performance demons for a pretty low cost including the price of the car.  The interiors are kinda sucky (being kind) and the overall build quality is "decent" but the platform responds amazingly well to mods and the prices of used ones are pretty reasonable.

Snowies money?  I'll take the C7 Z-06 or Z-07, please...   ;D

I had another opportunity to drive the Stingray again last week.  It's truly a fantastic car, but while it lit my hair on fire for being sensational when I drove it last autumn, this time, driving around Toronto, I was less impressed.  The power merging onto the highway was good, but not electrifying.  The more these hyper-capable cars get better and better (in terms of performance, technology, efficiency and creature comforts), the more they lose a bit of their soul too.

Maybe bikes are spoiling me.  I dunno.

Have you driven an open classer or ZX14/Busa yet?

Glad you are finally becoming assimilated and "getting" bikes!

I dunno.. it needed a LOT of help.  ;)

No Busas or ZX14 yet.  I'm trying only book bikes that I feel I can reasonably handle and get something out of.  More seat time on more variety = better perspective for reviews for me.

Man I'd love to take a new vette out for a spin. Ive been seeing more and more around here and they sound great. The new Z06 should be an absolute monster.
Lighten up Francis.....

Not much feels quick after you ride a high power GT bike. They dull your senses and you have to take time to "reset" and regain your senses.

The biggest adjustment for me has always been passing on two lane highways. A Busa can be at 250 by the time you're at the front bumper of the car your passing. Seriously. You quickly get used to be able to go from 100 to 200 in the blink of an eye.

One thing I don't miss is the constant police attention. If a cruiser spots you on the freeway you have a good chance of having a personal escort for some time.

I think only the HellCat offers more power for less dough, but the ability level of the Z-06 will far exceed the Dodge.  And the Z-06 is DED ZEXY!!!!!

C7 Z06 is about 100 pounds heavier than the C6 ZR1 which is really the best comparison.

So really, it only gained 100 pounds and is how many light years better?

I imagine, because of the Z/28 that there will be a real track version of the car in a couple years. I would think with the appropriate price increase they can get the weight down a couple-few hundred pounds.

And let's put things in perspective. It's absolutely unreal that the base price of the Z06 is $78,000.

The 911 Turbo S starts at $182, 700.
The Cayman GTS starts at $75,200.
R8 V10 is $173,000 (R8 V8 with 430 HP starts at $115, 000)
Viper is $102,000
GT-R is $102,000

Very good perspective here.  For the cost, the Vette is a sensational performance bargain, regardless of whether it's the Z06 we're talking about or not.

If I bought one though, I don't know how much time I'd realistically get to spend on the track, so all those on-paper numbers are just bragging fodder.  A V6 F-Type or Cayman would feel more special to me on a daily basis though I think.  Maybe.

GT-R, R8 and 911 S are AWD...which is HUGE for me.  It would suck mega to park your Z06 5 months of the year..or when it's raining.

I still like the GT-R for the money and all year useability.

Oh, yeah, we forget the GT-R thanks to it's relative age, but we shouldn't.  It's still a monster.

It's not that the C7 isn't a monster...because it is.  It would just suck balls to have to park it during wet/wintry weather.

With all the traction aids and winter tires, there's no reason a person couldn't run a Corvette through winter.

http://www.automobilemag.com/features/columns/1403-2014-chevrolet-corvette-stingray-bites-back-at-winter/

Around here, traction isn't as much of an issue as ground clearance, and the Corvette would suffer, just as a GT-R, Carrera or any other low slung car.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

That would be a huge issue around here too. I don't care what kind of winter tires you are sporting if all 4 of them are off the ground because you only have 4" of ground clearance.

same reason why the Fiat 500 suffered in the winter...with a mere 3.5in that thing got stuck easily.

I'd hope the GT-R would be a better year around vehicle - doesn't it have 5in of ground clearance?
