You won't want to ride the Paradise chair at Red Mountain!  Whoa, is it far off the ground, scaling multiple cliffs.  Even some experienced resort skiers get freaked out on that chair.  Wish I had some pics of it.

As a ski instructor, we have to be able to climb the tower, hook onto the line, and slide down to the chair in case you're stranded, and then rescue you.  On some big mountain lifts or gondolas, it's pretty exciting!!

No Red Mountain for me lol! Been on several of the chairs in Alberta, but it's been almost 20 years since I've been on one. I'm getting freaked out just thinking about going on another.

Didn't know ski instructor's had to rescue stranded chair patrons, that's rough, climbing one of those pylons would send me into shock.

58 k earlier this lovely day.  Got delayed a good bit by this, though.  :( I generally don't complain about a rest stop (to say the least) but this was much too early in the ride.

Put in a solid 50 km ride through the bush today. I've mentioned off-leash dogs in Durham Forest before, and today I came across an adorable old chocolate lab. Expecting the owners to come around the corner, I stopped so as not to spook the dog. I waited several minutes, and no one came... Turns out the dog had left a yard three kilometres away because its invisible fence was out of batteries. I managed to convince her to follow me back to the road (and out of the valley I was in) so I could get cell reception and call the owners.

An elderly woman showed up in her bathrobe to retrieve the dog. The ordeal cost me about 30 minutes and took me way outside my intended path, but I'll call that my cycling good deed for the week.

Did 30K of my favourite rail trail today.  She's a sneaky :censor:, because she's all uphill heading west, but only slightly so - just enough to make you wonder WTF is wrong with your legs.  Then, when you turn around to head back... WHEEEEEEEEE!  So much fun to throw on the big gear and zoom fast.  Takes half the time on the way back to the car.  Love it!

Sounds like a fun ride.  Those sneaky uphill stretches mess with your head, on road or off.

Had another great ride with my peeps on the Red Hill Trail in Hamilton.  Start at the Baranga's parking lot, then head up, up, up, up with quite a few hills thrown in for good measure, all the way up the escarpment.  After a good hour of huffing and puffing, it's such a joy to turn around and go WHEEEEEE all the way down, just like the rail trail.  It was SO bloody hot today, too.  The speed breeze was a welcome bonus.

Great job to everybody out there cycling! Also nice to see so many PR's on my Strava friends profiles!   I didn't get any riding in for the last 3 days of the month but did manage to get the 1250K badge and cross over 5,000 kms for the YTD.

My wheel for August.

August was just short of 500km

I can't even begin to ponder the miles Quad and Snowy put in!

And I'm down 1280 kms from last year and 1730 kms from the year before. Thankfully I'm training smarter so I'm better (IMO).

Watched "Where the Trail Ends" which I thought was pretty good. Filled with great scenery and lots of crazy runs and crashes. Available on Netflix.

I'm SO happy to have the bike.  On July 26, I tore my calve muscle and I just have been stubborn and keep running on it too soon, so now I'm having to take a real break.  I'm still fine on stairs and the incline trainer, etc, so just keeping those things up and keeping my bike mileage up has meant I'm able to keep fit.

I've noticed more older mountaineers adding competitive cycling to their roster of activities.  Cycling was long thought to be only for when you're injured as it's not a weight bearing exercise.  But now lots of folks are using it as a training tool (combined with other endurance training) and having fun with the bike just for the sake of it.
