Fack. I need to buy rain gear.  >:(

It rained in Oakville this morning?

Yep.  But if you weren't up at 5:30 you probably missed it.  I set out around 5:20 in a light steady rain.  Probably didn't last long, but it was just cool enough at that hour to start feeling miserable pretty quick. I got up to Dundas (not far from my place) and turned back.  Came back home, back to bed, woke up to beautiful sunshine, but the time to ride had vanished.

Yeah

Congratulations!

I'm on vacation tomorrow and Tuesday, so it's up north for lots of riding. I plan to strap the Go Pro onto my helmet to I have a video record of my downhill shenanigans and/or crashes.

Congrats!  Today might end up being an unscheduled rest day for me :( Whiteface is Friday night depending on the weather. Getting excited about trying to ride 12.9 kph for 40 minutes.

Leisurely 60 km this morning.  Booya!  ;D  No stats worth reporting - more of a touring ride than a hard-charging foaming-at-the-mouth hard-core roadie dash.  I literally stopped to smell the flowers.  :D  Good news is that this saddle is THE ONE.  Bad news is that the dreaded bottom bracket creak returned.  I did a couple laps of a fave segment of mine (Lower Baseline west to 5th line north to Britannia east to 6th line south, back to Lower Base line).  And I did it in reverse, just for kicks.  Anyway - there is a short steep climb as you transition to 5th line north - followed by a steady uphill gradient to Britannia.  Right after that short steep climb is when the blasted squeaking returned - and it did it on each lap.  :'( Back to the store.

Excellent.   My creaking/clicking noise issues all went away when I replaced my pedals.

So, what's the ideal bottle cage to pair with Camelbak Podium 710ml bottles? I read that Elite Custom Race is not a good fit...

depends your frame design.   My Niner Jet doesn't have enough room to fit does bottles (do to slightly extra length)  I use a side load cage and just a regular sized bottle.

My wife's frame (Niner EMD - hardtail) doesn't have room issues and allows the podium bottle to fit.

on all our bikes that have room for a standard cage, I've put Blackburn steel cages on our bikes.
I like it because unlike regular plastic cages, paint doesn't rub off the cages.

Good point re: frame design. I'm looking for new cages and bottles for a 56cm road bike with the traditional design, so I assume that the slightly bigger than usual bottles won't be an issue.

I currently have something like the Blackburn cages, but in black, and the paint does rub off to the bottles and I'm hoping to avoid that with some new cages.

From my experience only a steel, titanium or carbon cage will avoid paint rubbing off.  Steel being obviously the cheapest option

I had forgotten for 20 years just how much I used to enjoy riding around the streets, just for the sake of riding around and looking at neighborhoods I hadn't seen before. Makes me think of moving somewhere that I could ride my bike year around.

Some great riding this weekend, but quite muddy. Apparently North Bay has gotten lots of rain. Speaking of, a lesson...

1) Riding narrow bridges across ponds is awesome.

but,

2) Finding said bridge submerged thanks to high water levels, as well as covered in ducks, all while riding at 30 km/h around a blind corner? Less awesome.

Luckily the bridge held my weight, the bike didn't bog down, and the ducks cleared off. The bridge goes back a good 15 feet out of frame in the photo above. Bright side? The water spray cleaned a lot of mud off the bike.

Off riding one last time tomorrow morning before heading back south, this time with Go Pro affixed to my helmet.

I'm not certain, but there might be a lesson in there on the wisdom of riding at 30 kph when traversing a pond by way of a narrow wooden bridge.  ;D

Nice pics!
