First Drive: 2013 Acura RDX
« on: April 12, 2012, 04:04:42 am »

The redesigned Acura RDX loses some of its predecessor's uniqueness, but should appeal to a broader range of buyers.

Well I'm glad they got rid of that turbo 4 cylinder but I'm a bit disappointed that they appear to have taken the sport out of this SUV.  My wife and I were close to buying the previous model but decided against it because my wife wasn't a fan of the front end.  There's so much competition in this segment now that it's really a crap shoot for buyers, they really need to test drive them all in order to make a decision.  Personally I think for this kind of money I would be considering something german (BMW X1, Audi Q5, and Merc GLK).

Comparably equipped though, those German options are likely several thousand dollars more, even if you do opt for a four cylinder model like the Q5 2.0T.

Some people like maga-buttons - don't judge!  ;D  For Acura, this counts as a major button reduction.

That really does not look like an interior that belongs in a premium / upscale vehicle to me, though.  Just kind of screams 'cheap" - or in fairness maybe just 'mainstream average' - which comes to the same thing when you've branded the product a step above.

I think it's kind of generic looking compared to the previous generation.  And from the outside it looks massively longer.

It certainly sounds interesting.  Disappointed that they don't offer SH-AWD (mind you, only enthusiasts will care) and that they are still going with the Acura Beak themed front end.  Would have preferred a modern 4-cylinder turbo, but sounds like Acura hasn't had much success as other manufacturers.

Definitely way less buttons than in the MDX.  I sat in my friends 2008 MDX and then in another's 2012.  The difference?  More buttons in the 2012.

Interesting to see that the 3.5 v6 works with the CRV platform and running gear.  Competitor to the Rav4 V6 Sport...CRV Si!

The last model, while not pretty, was at least a distinctive vehicle. This will be lost in a sea of cute utes.....oh well, at least sales can only go up.
Lighten up Francis.....

Look, Acura has built its own Venza!  And I see that Acura has yet to discover any other shades/colours than grey...

You wanna see buttons?  Sit inside a Porsche Panamera.  I think that car is the Buttons Champ.

I wasn't just referring to the centre console, look at that steering wheel !!
I am not the kind to refer to TFM to learn what the hell all those buttons are for, only to forget a week later how to operate the bloody cruise control or any other feature. Just me, I know people who salivate at the sight of a button galore.

Car is boring now. Its a V6 CRV. At least the last one was interesting even if it was a mildlybad seller.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

But boring sells.  This is a big and growing segment and Acura can't afford not to get a good chunk of the market.

I like the V6 with its increased power (on paper anyway) and larger dimensions.  The previous version looked and felt to cramped for me.  This one w/o the tech pkg is definitely going on my short list :)  I would have liked a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats for a bit more $$, though.

Oh, okay... thanks, I didn't realize I thought the RDX dash was fugly... thanks for correcting me...  :surrend:

but yeah, that steering wheel is weird when i look at it for too long—i feel like an alien face is going to explode out of it and eat my face...

Honda/Acura has lost it way when it comes to design and marketing. If the trend continues they will become an "also ran" vehicle manufacture.
I like manual transmissions better than automatics because I like to drive rather than be driven.

You're not supposed to look at the steering wheel while you're driving  :popo:
