HTT Plethore Canadian Super Car Intro
« on: February 10, 2012, 01:20:40 pm »
Went to the intro event for the HTT Plethore last night. You may have seen these guys on Dragon's Den a few weeks ago. They didn't directly talk pricing last night but I remember from the show they are asking in the $400,000 range for these cars.

The Good

The carbon fiber body looks excellent.
The centre driving position sounds intriguing.
The hors d'oeuvres were delicious.
The waitresses and models were hot. (I felt like too much of a creeper to get photos of them, sorry)

The Bad

These guys' presentation was pure amateur hour. They seemed like nice people but c'mon, you need more than niceness to sell a $400K car.
The cars real interior exists only as a computer generated video. The interior in the car was for test purposes and was total junk.
They appear to have almost no video of the car actually driving at more than 30 kph.
When they opened the door it seemed like it took 30 seconds to stop bouncing back and forth.

The Ugly

For reasons unknown, they thought it would be impressive to start the engine. Inside. As it fired up it belched a bunch of smoke that had people behind the car moving to find fresh air. Then after running for about 5 seconds it died. After multiple tries, they could not re-start it. It was terribly embarrassing as they kept hitting the starter with no results. Then this overpowering smell of raw gasoline filled the room. Gasoline was pouring onto the floor from the driver's side of the car and they started grabbing towels to soak up the gas. At this point I sensed a slight safety issue so we headed for the exit and that was the end of the night for us.

Interesting car - the three abreast seating isn't seen too often.

I wish them luck but it certainly looks like broken dreams ahead.

Really? I would've sworn none of these guys had ever faced an audience before.

for 400k a piece, i would expect hand crafted polished aluminium/stainless/titanium and leather covered interiors..

and about 600hp... from say, aston's v12 or mb v12..

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Maybe they should enlist the guys from Factory 5 to give 'em a hand...or even the guy at the local garage.  Someone who knows how to make a car run.  The local plumber even...leaky fuel pipes?  Really?

What's this thing got anyway?  Sourced GM Vette engine?  (I could look it up, but then we'd have nothing else to talk about.)  Some German mfg?  Aren't those just plug'n'play by now?

Pretty cool looking vapour ware car anyway.

It's a 7.0L supercharged V8. I assume GM in origin. They claim 750 hp which sounds about right. Doesn't seem adequate for their top speed claim of 396 kph though.

...that does seem inadequate for almost 400km/h ..   and also, the engine... for $400k car, GM's V8 is not good enough...  it's fantastic engine, one of the great V8's.. but for $400k? actually, V8's ok.. just not as exotic as other offerings from same price range, i think..   and it's pretty ugly.

Canadians can do a lot of great things. Engineering a supercar is just not one of them yet. Haven't they learned from the Bricklin SV1?

To me fair the Bricklin was only nailed together in Canada - it was engineered/designed in the US. Calling it a supercar is a stretch even when it was new.

I'm assuming it's the LS7 and the LS7 is one of the best engines in the world (period). Light as balls, 7000 redline, 505 NA horsepower - and if you knew your stuff you'd actually realize it's a VERY sophisticated engine just based on "old" technology.

yeah i assumed it would be LS7, from the 7L V8 part.   and I KNOW it's a great engine.  i just mean that it doesn't seem exotic enough for $400k asking price.  for a $100k corvette or any car around that price,.. or even up to $200k, it's great engine..   but for $400k of my money(which i don't think i'll ever have) i would want something more exotic.

Wow, that's a pretty epic fail of an intro.  Only way it could have been much worse is if the thing actually caught fire.

Well, the race version of the LS7 in the C6R did win three Le Mans titles, 35 victories and four championships......that's some decent "exotic" pedigree.

Listen, I'm somewhat just busting your chops. I understand what you mean with "exotic engine" but that does not always mean "best" and people write off the LS7 as if it's some sort of mullet-engine rather than an engine developed and engineered through motorsports.

I thought I saw these guys at CIAS last year with something. In any case, rather humourous when you think about it. Fossil fuels on the floor and people ducking for cover.

Mike says 4 years of "introducing" this car? Then I must of seen one at CIAS last year.

S**t or get of the pot...
