Chevrolet Cruze Wagon
« on: February 09, 2012, 10:17:30 am »
Another great wagon I doubt we will get.  With the Cruze Diesel coming, this would be one sweet diesel wagon with a manual  :D

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1072745_chevrolet-cruze-wagon-preview-2012-geneva-motor-show

Chevrolet has confirmed today that it will unveil a new wagon variant of its popular Cruze at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Along with the confirmation, the automaker released this single image of the upcoming Cruze Wagon, revealing its extended wheelbase and new rear styling.

The latest Cruze bodystyle complements the sedan and hatch versions, which have sold in excess of one million vehicles globally since the line was launched back in 2009.

The exterior design features a tapering single arch roofline and is available with roof racks. Overall length measures in at 15.4 feet and total storage is said to be close to 53 cubic feet once the rear seats are folded.

The engine lineup should mirror that of the sedan and hatch variants, which mean a range of four-cylinder units, naturally-aspirated or turbocharged, displacing between 1.4 and 2.0 liters. These will come in gasoline and diesel flavors and output up to 161 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque.

While the Cruze Wagon will hit European showrooms before the end of the year, there’s no official word of it landing in the U.S. anytime soon. And with Chevrolet choosing not to bring over the Cruze Hatchback, there’s not much chance the wagon will arrive either.

Stay tuned for our full coverage of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show once press days commence on March 6. In the meantime, follow our ongoing coverage via our dedicated show page.

Looks great. I agree, bring over a diesel version and people will buy it.

Yep - both of them.   :)

I think wagons make a huge amount of sense and some look really sharp, but forum demand for diesel wagons bears no correlation with actual market demand.

It's funny you say this.  I am writing the Caddy SRX article and began with a bit of a rant on how much of a minority enthusiasts are when it comes to the car buying public.  We have no pull :(

Acutally Jaeger, I COULD argue that the diesel argument is "proven" to be stronger for the Wagon segment by actual current sales, and not just by forum chatter.  Which true "small" wagons are available in NA?  Golf (Jetta) Wagon, and maybe the ET if you count that as a wagon.  What is  he proportion of compact wagon sales that are diesel?  The Golf Wagon TDI take rate is apparently > 50%.  Therefore wagon owners must love diesel engines, right?  Of course that's a fallacious argument, as it conflates the correlation (wagon sales that happen to be diesels) with causation (people really want diesel-powered wagons).  It certainly doesn't hurt VW that they are the only maker of true small wagons, and the only marketer of reasonably priced (and excellent) diesels.  Jetta sales are heavily comprised of diesels too, but that doesn't mean all sedans from other makes would have similar diesel take rates if they offered them as well.  But if there were more diesel wagons (with MT!!!) to choose from, what else would we b!!ch about? ;D

And Mike, enthusiasts must have at least SOME pull.  How else do you explain the BRZ/FR-S?

Audi decided to ship 1000 TT-RS's to the US in 2012/13 as a result of a 11,000 signatures on a petition. Canada gets 100.

I'm sure if we collected 11,000 signatures in support of importing manual diesel wagons, someone would take note. Problem is, they'd also likely notice that it was 11 guys signing their names 1000 times each.  ;D

Hell, offer it with the standard Cruze engines (no diesel needed, too costly), and it would compete with the Focus wagon nicely.

Edit: Are we getting the Focus wagon?  ???

They said we might... then nothing more.

Cruze wagon looks very good. Maybe better than the sedan...and the wagon sounds like it has plenty of very usable cargo space.

I found it a weird choice...but maybe they are looking at their markets and saying that between the Escape, the hybrid/Energi C-Max, and Focus hatch they don't need another cargo hauler in this price range. I'm not sure. I still think the wagon Focus would be a hit. If Chevy wants to steal Ford's thunder here and provide some sort of good Golf Wagon competitor that would be alright too!

OK, so the Cruze looks different.  I guess just seeing a compact Chevy wagon reminded me of the Optra5.
