I bought a CPO 2004 Boxster in 2009 and kept it until the warranty ended 2 years later May 2011. First off I loved the car. Did 35000 km and drove it year round - what makes it a great summer vehicle makes it even better in the winter with the right tires. Loved the car but bottom line with the intermediate shaft problem I did not want one without a warranty.I was prepared to buy a used one, 2009 or newer, or a brand new one but due to dealer issued was unable to - I had been telling them for 6 months what I wanted but they simply would not find something - strangest thing I've ever encountered - I could fit a new one in the budget but don't dress like something out of GQ so I suspect they profiled me - incorrectly. And then there was that somewhat arrogant attitude.

I finally gave up on dealing with those people and looked at a few other possibilities - gran sport corvette but none available to drive or even see, Roush mustang and none available etc. A friend at the gym had bought a Nissan 370z and was happy with it so I went and took one for a ride. Two days later I picked it up. If on a scale of 0-100 a boxster is 100 then the 370 is easily 95+. I was very surprised and 8 months later I love the car. Put aggressive snow tires with studs and in the snow and ice it is a hoot.

A couple of thoughts.....On vehicles costing this much one should not have to be concerned about the engine coming apart. This happens on engines with little to high mileage, driven little or lots, dealers do not want to discuss this problem and in fact my local dealer sales department denied knowledge of it - I do not like being lied to. Plus what I got the 370 roadster for was the better part of 40K less than a boxster S similarly equipped.

I will end by saying I loved driving the Porches, miss it some but am pleased that the situation resulted in my getting the 370 roadster with sport pack.

S2k clutch job isn't that much better. You are looking at about $1500 in parts in Canada, $1000 from the US.

Then it is an 8 hour book job. So it's $2,500 when all is said and done.

It may be a slightly easier job for a DIY then a boxster but it is not an afternoon driveway job.  Took me at least 12 hours my first time with help from Dad a mechanic, huge PITA.

Nope that's Honda oem pricing

Flywheel $250
Pressure plate $300
Clutch $130
Bearing $130
Other bearing $20
Tranny oil $30

Those are discount US prices.  Double everything from the dealer here.

I just bought a new pressure plate ACT because my clutch slips and it was $520 :(. Flywheel $350 for a light one and then the rest is OEM.

The biggest rip off has to be that throwout bearing.  I remember calling the dealer here and he said $250 I couldn't stop laughing.

So you lunched you entire clutch and NEEDED all those new parts?  And why bother with OEM?  They are overpriced.  There are several clutch manufacturers where you could have gotten a better clutch likely for less money...

I see everything you need from Gripforce (using an Exedy OEM-type clutch, bearings, Fidanza flywheel) for $625...

Or a slightly cheaper full kit for $484  http://gripforce.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_191_193&products_id=389

No didn't lunch anything, it's such a huge job that you replace everything.

Those kits are all junk.  The exedy is flimsy, buddy of mine bought one, drove 300km and it exploded!

The OEM clutch is the best of the bunch, I think the only better one is science of speed but they won't ship to a Dropbox and want $160 to ship their $1500 kit.

Trust me I've researched this to death, problems galore with anything other then OEM disk and the pressure plate is the weak part of the system so you upgrade to an ACT but it is pricey.

The biggest issues are buzz, chatter and slippage.

I will admit though that grip force place is cheap, I've seem that same kit for $1200 most places.   And usually the don't include the release bearing

Lol no.  Tranny bolts were ridiculously tight and one bolt took 2 hours to get the socket on it.  It is in the worst possible spot, takes two people to guide it on.  Don't need to remove exhaust, just the cat.  I have no seized bolts since it has no rust.

This time will be worse I have to disassemble the supercharger, remove it etc first ugh.
