I think the most interesting part of the 2013 Altima is ....

2013 Nissan Altima to feature optional supercharged 2.5-liter hybrid

A 2.5 with a blower and an electric motor

=400lbft of torque?

It may not be that much but with the nissan's new hybrid setup the cvt is a chain construction(stronger)instead of a belt that is found in all nissan cvt transmissions. Which means there will be alot of torque.

Belt? as in rubber belt?

Don't see chain mentioned in this article!

Steel belts have been used since the early 1980s CVT transmissions. Some newer ones are switching to chains.

I know, but way back when rubber belts were also used, henced my question.  Nissan uses a steel belt, Subaru on the other hands uses a different belt, sort of a meshed thingy

Very interesting, but only on the Hybrid. Wonder how the heck this chain goes up and down to change the ratios?

New and different tailights for sure.

Thats to bad, I actually like the tailights on the current generation Altima. I think the current Alitma IMHO is one of the better looking vehicles on the road. Won't mention the others.

It  just pushes between the two pulleys.  Watch this vid:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIOoZhXKP2M

Rocket is right. The principle is the same only the chain design is different. It still relies on the friction between the contoured sides of the chain and the adjustable pulley cones. This chain design is not new, Audi has been using this chain design for over a decade.

I made a point of sitting in the current gen Altima at the AutoShow today and I take back my comment regarding the interior. The one I sat in at the show was a middle of the road Altima and although I can't say I'm a huge fan of the gauge cluster...there is no denying it is a very decent interior. Much better than my previous impressions (I wonder what I was remembering from before :)).

So I take it all back.

If Nissan improves on the current interior then they will probably be class leading. As it is the Altima is mostly there anyways. Really nice car!

I'm thinking you may have sat in a pre-07 model, and there you would be absolutely correct in your assessment of....meh.

In a nissan promo video they may have released a pic of the new Altima. Sorry about the pic Size. Has the shape of the maxima along the door panels.

The styling on the side bears a close resemblance  to the "Ellure "concept car Even the Front grille.

No manual is a very safe bet.  They removed it from the V6 sedan not long after my 2007 model.  There just isn't the demand for a manual in this type of vehicle.  Heck, there's barely any demand in the type of vehicles that cry out for a stick.

Jaeger

The manual box on my 02 Altima was nothing short of trash --- my wife's 07 Accent has a way better gear box than the Altima had. Too bad - the 2.5 was a decent little engine, and it was a very spacious car and enjoyable to drive on the highway. Working the gearbox was brutal, though.

The '07 was better - but that just got it to "okay".  It was never a stellar shifter by any stretch.

Has Nissan ever made a "great" manual tranny?  The Spec V was certainly not stellar either (not terrible, mind you) and I wasn't hugely impressed with the G35 shifter (nice and short, but clunky).  Altima coupe 6-speed was OK but throws were quite long.  The old 200SX shifter was totally rubbery.  What about the old 300ZXs or Maximas?

BTW, latest C&D claims a 6MT will be offered with both the 4-banger and V6 new Altima sedans (as well as the obligatory Nissan CVTs)...but I think they are on crack.  Love to be wrong about that, though!

I think the shifters in current RWD applications - 370Z and G37 Sport are pretty darned good.  (I haven't driven the current Z, but have driven the G37 stick). I certainly preferred the G shifter to that in the Genesis Coupe 3.8, for example.
