Tail lights look Maxima-ized.  I can't tell much else about it other than it looks more chunky.

Similar centre console as the maxima too. AKA no handbrake.  No Hand brake no manual?(just like the max) I hope I am wrong.

Interior looks like a big step forward.

Ya, hoping they did not do away with the soft materials, that kills it for me.

No manual is a very safe bet.  They removed it from the V6 sedan not long after my 2007 model.  There just isn't the demand for a manual in this type of vehicle.  Heck, there's barely any demand in the type of vehicles that cry out for a stick.

Looks like it has a bit of Maxima and 370Z in it... not a bad thing either! I do wonder what Nissan will do with the Altima to make it stand out. It looks sportier than most of the mid-sizers and I remember how much fun the 2.5L in the current gen was on a test drive once. The interior was the weaker point in the current model... that looks to be hopefully improved!

I find interesting you say the interior is a weaker point, pound for pound there is more soft touch materials in this car than anything else in the category.  The fit is top notch, no unsightly gaps around the glove door or centre compartment, no sqeaks or rattles, well positioned controls and simple to understand.  Every single review I ever read also point this out.  As for flash, no there is none, it is quiet so to speak.

I think the current Altima has one of the nicer interiors in the midsize class, in terms of layout and quality of materials.  The only thing I didn't like was the orange/red instrument lighting.  I find the softer blue of the Sonata much more agreeable on a long night-time drive.

I've sat in two and I found things to be cheap to the touch and panels that didn't seem to match up as well as I'd like. Certainly the Accord my parents have (an 08) was nicer in nearly every way. My Corolla has a ton of hard plastics but everything is lined up extremely well.

Rattles I can't really attest to. Maybe Nissan has that one well sorted out. This was early in the current generation as well so I can't discount the possibility that they improved.

Yes orange has to go, anymore its a little bit too Pontiac for my taste.

IceandFire, obviously we dont all see the same things when we sit in a car I guess, but here is quick run down:

doors - thickly padded armrest, padded centre panel, padded upper portion.
armrest- thickly padded and moveable
instrument panel - very large padded portion with a very nice texture that could be compared to a type of leather(not sure what to call it) - the panel is also devoided of joints, they have been kept to a minimum - glove door, heavy and closes with a solid thump feel
shifter - nicely covered with leather and a solid feel, if anything annoys me is a sloppy shifter mechanism which we do see nowadays, small detail but.....
steering wheel - covered in leather, tilt and telescopic
audio - Bose(I know there is an anti-Bose crowd here)but Im not an audiophile so it sounds great to me, more importantly it has SAT and Handsfree with no requirement to buy those expensive modules to make it work.

I had an '07 Altima.  My Dad has an '08 Accord.  The Altima had the nicer interior in terms of both layout and quality of materials, IMO.

When I bought mine new in 05, the interior, manual transmission and that sweet 3.5V6 made my decision very easy. there was nothing else at that time that could touch the Altima for its looks and driving dynamics.....even though the guy at the Toyota dealer insisted the red Solara they had in the showroom was the perfect "sporty car for a young feller like yourself".....I kind of thought the newer versions of the Altima were not as good looking as the 3rd gen to me. The interiors were always nice to the touch and to the eye I thought, even in the base model 2.5S my buddy had.

05-06 interiors was a big improvement over the 02-04, omg that was cheap.

I think the most interesting part of the 2013 Altima is ....

2013 Nissan Altima to feature optional supercharged 2.5-liter hybrid

It may not be that much but with the nissan's new hybrid setup the cvt is a chain construction(stronger)instead of a belt that is found in all nissan cvt transmissions. Which means there will be alot of torque.
