Sporty Vehicle under $10k
« on: January 27, 2012, 02:43:20 pm »
My friend is looking for a new car soon. He has a 2000 328i and its starting to cost him alot to keep running. Hes a car guy that drives his cars HARD  :popo: Here are his requirements:

-$10k or less
-Stylish/Sporty looks
-No hatchbacks
-FUN to drive with a decent amount of power
-Manual preferred, automatic is fine too
-Leather & sunroof preferred
-At least average reliability
-Acceptable km's, 2004 or newer

I have suggested:

C-Class, 3-Series, A4 high running costs (hes had enough of that)  :P
06' Altima Doesn't like styling  ::)
06-07' Mazda 6
04-05' CTS
04-05' TSX  ;D
04' G35

Anything else? He really likes the TSX & has had some seat time in mine, but its quite rare for one in his price range and km's. I think the Mazda 6 is the best, well rounded choice.
Mine: 2004 Acura TSX
Family: 2005 Honda Odyssey EX, 2006 BMW 330i

You've listed 4 door sedans.  Why?

You'll have a hell of a time finding a Mazda6 that meets his price criteria.+

Edit - Maybe not.

A little older but you might be able to find a Prelude for that price.

RSX?  Oh right, a hatch.
Celica?

If getting a G,  this looks to be a (too good to be true?) Deal

There are quite a few older Mazda 3s and 6s for $10k or less.

Here's a nice G with low mileage.  I owned an 03 and it was definitely a fun car.  Extremely reliable as well.  Even has reclining rear seats.

I'd go with a G35 as well if it needs to be a sedan.

That's a tough budget to work with for his "wants".

If he can raise his budget to $12,000, a good, older TSX may not be out of reach...

I don't think it's a tough budget at all given what he's looking at.  You can easily get into a fairly low mileage G35 at that price range, which IMO is a LOT more fun than a TSX.  Just my .02 cents.

Really, wow?  I didn't realize a fairly low mileage G could be had for those prices...  I agree it's a sportier car than the TSX.

Just bringing some reality to a non reality thread.  :)

In salty Ontario, 8 year old G35s, TSXs, IS300 (rare) are well past their due dates.  Time for the OP's "friend" to face reality and buy something that has a few miles to go before it needs continuous repair and has an ACTUAL resale value of NIL.

Bringing reality to the thread are you?  I already posted an 04 G with only 105k on the ODO (which is nothing for a VQ) for only $9950.  IMO, this car is not even close to being past it's due date as you suggest.

How about a Civic SI?

A 2006 would be tough to find in good shape at that price range. Likely not impossible, but tough. The pre-2006 Si was garbage. I would suggest an 04 SiR, but he doesn't want a hatchback, so that's out...

Are G35s in that price range a good buy? Seems like a lot of car for the money - my initial impression would be they can't possibly be in good shape. Then again, their value dropped like a rock, so maybe I'm wrong...
