2012 Lightning Lap

The Boss 302 is one hell of a performer. Panamera pretty much tied the lap time of the Ford GT. Crazy.

A little surprised the GT-R got beaten (by a not-insignificant margin) but the ZR1. Very impressive machine, that.

The Cayman R seems to have done pretty well for itself, too. This is Porsche's "baby" (albeit in R trim), and it's still posting very impressive times. Well done.

I remember when they first started this they were waiting for a car to break the 3 minute mark....now it is getting trounced.

I am impressed by the X5M and the new SRT-8s (old ones were dogs)

The Panamera Turbo S beat the Cayman R by 3 seconds?  :o

Any of the cars you'd expect to be on there, have probably been tested in years past, and don't appear on the main chart if there have been no changes. However, their times are posted at the bottom of the actual article.

Panamera aside - I find the TT RS time pretty impressive.

The Panamera is a beast on the track.  When I drove it 2 years ago on the track you totally forget it's a big car and it feels like a 911.  The Cayman R is sick and the laptime proves it, it feels like a missile around a tight track.

That TT-RS is absolutely beast. Imagine if it had more than 330ish hp?

Why would you be surprised?  The ZR-1 is using street legal DOT RACE tires.  Michelin Pilot Sport Cup.  A treadwear rating of only 80!!  Some peeps are wearing these out after LESS than 2,500kms on the road!  Good for seconds per lap.  Wished they tested all cars with the same tires.

BTW....the GT-R uses plain old rubber....Potenza RE070R.

Don't worry, Rrocket's just a little butthurt about the ZR1...... :P

I'll buy him a couple stogies this Friday, hopefully that will dry his tears.  ;)

Other cars, including the GT3, have been wearing those tires for years and no one ever complained. Corvette starts wiping the floor with the world and all of a sudden people are all worried about the tires. They're an option, BTW.

Hey, it'll dust anything within' 200K on the track, but the "seats suck and has has the same steering wheel as a Cobalt"  ;D

FYI, I can also guess Ron's next car - TT-RS! (You also heard it here first).

Sport cups are awesome but those RE070's on the GT-R are nearly as awesome, probably a second a lap difference though.  I drove some pilot sport cups once I swear they were better than my race tires.

^ He already has a pretty lengthy thread about the TT-RS... including a quote to lease one. You're behind the times. ;)

Hey, it is what the factory installs and what consumers get.  It is a moot point.  It is like saying "Man, I wish all cars came with AWD like the GT-R to even the playing field".  The Viper ACR took things even further with it's removable front splitter.

Ouch.  Make that double ouch, when you consider that TireRack will sell you 4 PilotSports (2 285/30ZR19 front, 2 335/25ZR20 rear) for the low, low price of only $2110!! (Plus shipping & tax...)
