I bought a brand new G35x. I took it in for servicing at 12 months, 12,000 miles and was told I had to pay $1400 for new brakes and rotors. They claim this is normal on a "high performance" car. 5 years later, they are offering a $270 credit to owners who had brake work done. Sorry Nissan/Infiniti that's TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE!

I guess they expected me to!  All my other vehicles lasted 100,000 to 160,000 kms before even needing pad replacements.  That's why I knew they were feeding me BS. So I traded the car in on a Toyota. Nissan/infinity lost me as a customer forever at that point.

$1400 for pads and rotors?  People really need to either learn how to do this stuff themselves or bring it to an Indy as I'm sure that can be done for 1/3 the price.

I got rid of it a few months after that horrible experience of having to replace all the brake pads and rotors after just 1 year of highway driving.  I don't know about you, but that's not the kind of thing I budget for under "regular maintenance" for the cars I drive!

Say what?  160k kms on a set a pads??    ???

What year was your G35x?  IIRC, I got about 40k kms on the stock pads of my 07 G35 before I had to have them replaced.  I had to have all 4 pads replaced on my 03 G35 as they wore out prematurely.  Infiniti issued a TSB on it and they were replaced under warranty.

It was a 2005 G35x.  I bought it new from the dealer.  Yes, my best case of brake life was 160,000 km on a 1997 Toyota 4runner. That truck was bullet proof.  My miles are all highway so not much braking involved :)

Ohfercyingoutloud.  Your brakes wore out too fast on a 2005 G35x. that you bought NEW?  And your first two posts on this forum are to start TWO separate threads whining about this terrible travesty that took place more than half a decade ago?  Do you generally have issues letting things go?

I'm confused, survey says "Is it normal for brake rotors to wear out completely at 18,000km (hwy) as Infiniti claimed? "

Your rant says 12000km, so what is it?

Me, I can ruin the brakes on any car in 5000km ;D

My rant says 12,000 miles.  The survey says 18,000 kms.  Six of one, a half dozen of the other :)

I brought up the issue 5 years later because that's how long it took Nissan/Infiniti to admit they had a problem.  Of course, they didn't use their computer system to notify all G35 owners who had brake work done at their dealers that they were now offering a tiny rebate.  I had to find out from a friend who still owned a G35 and who knew about my issues with brakes on that car.  And after following up they said I didn't qualify because I missed the deadline.  Oh well, I didn't have high expectations for Infiniti service to begin with so I wasn't surprised

All that TOO LITTLE TOO LATE! block cap shouting sounds a little too raw for something that happened 7 years or so ago.  Inifiniti / Nissan lost you as a customer waaaay back then.  I expect they're very much over it.  You, on the other hand....

Seems like it was a dealership issue and not an Infiniti issue.  The 2005 G35x had the same rotors/pads as the 2003 and 2004 G35s.  The 2005 RWD G35 had the upgraded larger rotors and wasn't prone to the issue you had.  In any case, Infiniti issued a 3 year, 60k KM warranty and reimbursed owners for any out of pocket expenses during that time for rotor and pad replacement.  Obviously your dealership didn't own up to it.

No, I raised the issue all the way up to their head office.  No one took responsibility for this.

There was obviously a disconnect somewhere.  I am an Administrator on G35Driver and there has been countless members (both US and Canadian) that had zero issues having the rotors/pads replaced under warranty.  I myself had the work done at no charge by my local Nissan dealership with no questions asked back in 2004.

This is the letter than Infiniti US sent out for owners of all 2003 and 2004 owners as well as 2005 G35x owners.

Quote
Infiniti is committed to providing the highest levels of product quality and customer satisfaction. One of the many superior features of the award winning G35 is its excellent braking performance. This performance is due in part to advances in materials technology inherent in the brake pads on model year 2005 G35X sedans. However, that superior performance can result in these customers sometimes experiencing greater brake rotor wear than they may have experienced with other vehicles they previously owned or leased.

What Infiniti will do

To ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction, for a limited time, Infiniti is offering to reimburse owners for out-of-pocket expenses related to brake rotor replacement for 3 years from the original in-service date or 36,000 miles on your odometer, whichever occurred first (the "Program Period.")

This brake rotor reimbursement program covers brake rotor replacement performed when required because of rotor wear during the Program Period.

What You Should Do

If you have previously had your brake rotors replaced during maintenance to your vehicle prior to your receipt of this letter and during the Program Period, you may be eligible for reimbursement of these expenses. A detailed claim form is printed on the back of this letter. If you have questions, please contact Infiniti Consumer Affairs at 1-800-662-6200.

Please note all claims must be submitted by July 31, 2011.

I had heard that Infiniti USA managed the situation well, but not here in Canada.  They sent a version of the note you copied below - same intro, but only offered a max of $270 rebate.  And customers only had 90 days from receipt of the letter to file the claim.

He might be from Canada, but here is the letter I had to ask to get a copy of:

Dear Infiniti G35X Owner:

Infiniti is committed to providing the highest levels of product quality and customer satisfaction.  One of the many superior features of the award winning G35X is its excellent braking performance.  This performance is due in part to advances in materials technology inherent in the brake pads on model year 2005 G35X sedans.  However, that superior performance can result in these customers sometimes experiencing greater brake rotor wear than they may have experienced with other vehicles they previously owned or leased.

This brake rotor reimbursement program covers brake rotor replacement performed when required because of rotor wear during the Program Period. The reimbursement will only be eligible for the cost of the brake rotors, and will not cover other parts costs, or labour expenses, to a maximum of $275.00.

What You Should Do

If you have previously had your brake rotors replaced during maintenance to your vehicle prior to your receipt of this letter or during the Program Period, you may be eligible for reimbursement of those expenses.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your dealership or the Infiniti Information Centre at 1-800-361-4792.
