Transmission is finished.

In my opinion, not worth replacing with a rebuilt unit.

Go back to the Chey dealer and trade it in on a Cruze.  Park it in such away that it doesn't cause the problem and you just might get lucky and get 2K for it.

Good luck.

+1, the tranny will up and quit soon.  Most likely already have loose metal bits floating around in there.

:iagree: +2, I'd take this risk; flush the tranny to try to get any gunk or self-consumed bits out of it and drop in a heavier oil.

It's a 7 year old car, not uncommon for it, the Optra is a GM-ized Daewoo Nubira. The Hyundai store I worked at did the service for Daewoo's when the owner had the franchise, auto trannies were a common complaint/replacement item when under warranty. How many km's do you have on it?

I can see why your GM dealer is unenthusiastic about it. Low volume, inexpensive car with oddball parts by GM's standards. I'll bet strongly that dealers have a general hate on for them.

If you really like the car and don't plan on trading, see if one of those Mr. Tranmission places will give you their opinion. You may be able to sink maybe $1500 into it and squeeze another year or two out.
Richard - that's my opinion and I stand by it.

05 Optra....ummmm, I dont think its worth sinking any money into it, if you have $2000 to spare on a tranny, get another vehicle.

I'd agree with your assessment more as well. $2k cash plus if you can skank $2k on a trade, that's a solid upfront towards a replacement vehicle. Don't even try to sell it privately, most buyers looking at an older vehicle such as that will sniff out the bad transmission and try to lowball you or come back to haunt you over it. Not worth your time or money.

Trade it to the dealer as-is and wash your hands of the problem.
