Wrong. It ran just long enough to catch on fire and then never again. 
Well, my Lucas stuff was completely safe....completely inert, but safe 
You do have to connect the battery for it to catch on fire.

The only Lucas fault I had was a ignition/light switch on my Bug-eye which came loose and when you turned on the lights, shorted out the switch an d blew the fuse. That was a 1960 car so they had not yet introduced any Murphy brand electronics into cars yet. I was fortunate.
