Why would he want a car he can only drive four days a year? :rofl2:

Well I did say as "as summers go".  Better buy a Miata with a hard top then.  :D  Seriously, you've got 3 months.  An 08 Miata would last a life time.  :)

Hammy, your choices seem to be a bit all over the place.

Are you sure you just don't have "new car itch"?   :rofl2:

If you do, you're among friends.

What exactly are you not understanding?

Same back at you.  :)  You are saying the same thing I have been saying previously.

However, there is no "paper trade".  That's a poor description.  It's a pre-arranged double sale from a dealer.  The actual vehicle MUST PHYSICALLY enter the dealer's property.  It can't be any different in NF.  The dealer has certain rules to follow and must take physical possession of the Pilot.  The Pilot can not just sit in Hammy's driveway until all the money changes hand.  The dealer must physically verify that the Pilot is actually the legit Pilot because the dealer for a day becomes the actual owner of the Pilot.

Therefore this is a standard trade on new vehicle and a used car sale all involving the same vehicle.  The only difference in this case is that all the transaction prices have been previously agreed to.

Things must be different in Ontario. I was involved in a paper trade some years ago and the dealer never even saw my old car much less had it on his lot.

Yep, my experience was the same.  When I upgraded my 2003 Infiniti G35 to my 2007 Infiniti G35 I had someone here in NB that was interested in purchasing it.  The Infiniti dealership had no issues doing a paper trade so I could save on taxes for my 2007.  The Infiniti dealership in NS didn't need/want to see my 2003 during the paper trade.  The potential buyer backed out in the end, but the dealership by no means considered it a "trade".  Again......things are obviously different in other Provinces.  Steve, what you are saying might be facts for Ontario, but they aren't for NB.

Yup same thing here in NS. Did a paper trade of my Subaru against the lease on the Volvo I had. Saved me some taxes. No one from the dealer ever walked out of the showroom to see that my Subaru was even on the lot. The ownership papers went into the dealer for the transaction and that was it.

I'm with Steve and Cord on the "paper trade" thing. I don't care what province you're in, there's no way to account for the appropriate amount of taxation unless the dealer takes ownership of the trade-in, even if it's only for 10 minutes. If the sales personnel aren't walking out the door to verify the trade-in, that's just them being lazy and negligent; doesn't mean it's proper practice. It could come back to bite them in the ass. Here on P.E.I., I'm pretty certain that the trade-in requires a fresh MVI. Reputable auto sales personnel shouldn't engage in "curb-siding" practices.

You've got three members here from New Brunswick telling you the way it is here in this Province.  You can choose to believe it or not.

Ken never said he didn't believe you. He just said that it was just lazy and negligent behaviour on the part of the dealerships that do it.

That Mazda 6 GS-L is a nice car; to bad they sold out of the 5 speed's so quick. I think it was $1000 over the cost of the standard GS w/ comfort package? I used to sell for Mazda and they will do a convienience deal and I'm pretty sure some tax savings were there but I can't be 100% sure. The sales manager is an arrogant S.O.B. though; he'll usually deal but you have to stick to what you want.

APok,

I know what you are saying about the sales manager, we had ot deal with him when my wife bought her Mazda 3.  He tried every nickle and dime trick in the book.
