It was registered as "rebuilt" in Alberta and Quebec. Then it was registered as "normal" in NL. So very possible the seller didn't know. Now the question is how it got normal status in NL? Loophole in NL's registration system? Or fluke?

Have you told the seller yet?  It may well come as a big surprise to him. I have to think the GM dealership that sold it to him would have known  ::)

My first ever GM ownership experience  can best be described as   "Fool me once...."

Maybe when he said "no accidents"  he meant "in the nine months I've owned it"  ;D

Just contacted them, they really seemed to be surprised about the accident.  Either way.... looks like I am back to choosing between a Sonata or Kizashi (which is a bit more expensive).

Which Sonata?  The 2.4 isn't a particularly sporty ride - though it can be reasonably entertaining if you find one with a manual transmission and will offer a lot of interior space.  The base Sonata is actually quite a lot of car for the money.  Can you still get the Kizashi with a manual - or is it CVT-only?  If the former, it will definitely be more fun to drive, but won't offer the people space of the Sonata.  If the latter - well - CVTs are a deal-breaker for me.

The 2012 kizashi are all cvt and awd.... no manual option.  And the Sonata have 0% for 72 months, no admin fees, less expensive.

Urrrrgh but its so hard to go back to shopping for a Sonata when you were so close to an M35x.
Everything in life is relative.
