2013 Buick Encore
« on: January 10, 2012, 08:40:09 pm »
I like it.

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/01/2013-buick-encore-is-nissan-juke-sized.html

It's a spark underneath.

Quote
Buick’s new small crossover is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 140HP and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of peak torque delivered at just 1,850 rpm. It is available with a six-speed automatic transmission and front- or all-wheel drive, both of which feature a McPherson strut front and torsion beam rear suspension.

Really......weedy engine...Ooh a Turbo...I wonder. How much will the turbo cost when it breaks....

That may not be the most flattering photo, but I don't see a single thing I like.  Woof.

It does absolutely nothing for me in the looks dept. Looks really porky and I think the tiny rear windows make it look even chunkier.

I was expecting a Equinox sized vehicle... but this is a Sonic sized crossover. Odd. I'm not sure if there is a market for one of these vehicles in North America or not.

I'm kind of surprised, because Buick has put out a string of pretty good looking cars of late.  Not this one, though.

Honestly, when you look at Buick sales it doesn't really matter whether there is a market for this in NA or not.  The relevant question becomes, is there a market for this in China?  GM obviously thinks so.  Maybe they should have debuted it at the Shanghai auto show...

How well does the Nissan Juke sell in Canada?  It's also a small crossover...  How does this compare in size to a late 1990s Suzuki Vitara or a first-gen Honda CRV?  Everything has gotten so huge we forget that trucks and cars used to be much smaller...

Oh great, what the world needs is yet another SUV/CUV from GM. It looks like a shrunk down version of those god awful/ugly as sin Aztek/Rendez Vous things. This comes complete with that tiny 1.4l turbo engine which works well in the Sonic, is marginal in the Cruze but it is sure to be pathetically anemic in anything larger. The micro SUV market is also likely to be marginal as well.

I feel like an old scratched up LP record skipping over the past few weeks with the same take over and over again on the latest onslaught of "new" products from GM. They can't keep producing crap like this for niche markets. They utterly fail to recognize that companies like Honda, Toyota and more recently Hyundai have hauled them down in passenger car sales over the past 25 years with exceptionally good generic products such as Civics, Elantra's and Camry's. If they would spend more money and more time developing class-killer cars in those mass-sale segments they'd find an almost instant effect on their balance sheets. Sadly the Cruze is plain and simple not good enough, their mid-size sedans are a joke compared to the class leaders and "new" cars like the Orlando, the 130R & 140S's and the upcoming Colorado are neat advertising pieces but won't sell 3000 copies a month in this country.

I smell more government bailouts.
Richard - that's my opinion and I stand by it.
