At least the second generation interior resembles something like a modern econocar. It still looks cheap but fit and finish is pretty decent. When I got into a first generation for the first time, I felt like I was in an early 90s Geo Metro. So yes, huge improvement, although quite relative.
Although this is coming from a person who's not a fan of the Mini's interior at all.
