I like it... mostly. Proportions wise I do like this car. The overall shape is right but what Acura seems to suck at is getting the details done right. This is missing something... or a bunch of things that turns the overall shape into a really nice looking package. The headlights, the grille, and something on the back is definitely just not quite right. From the side view I think it's quite nice.

Also the engine stuff is rather ho-hum. But Honda was planning to come out with a new generation of engines so maybe in a couple of years it will be more impressive there.

As for why it exists. Not clear yet but I suspect something might happen to the Honda Accord sold in Europe and Acura decided to go with a Civic based platform to replace the TSX. Make it a bit more of an entry level vehicle and go from there. The next TL I think would have to shrink a bit to fill the middle and the high end Legend/whatever it's called stays where it is and maybe grows a tad.

CSX replacement?
I would say 99 percent chance of that. The new Civic is being sold but the old CSX is still in production or was. Plus the CSX was a Canadian only model while the ILX is supposed to be both US and Canada. Some hated the idea of a warmed over Civic in the guise of the CSX so this is a dedicated model on the same basic platform but with unique sheetmetal and interior.

it's going to replace the csx and the tsx imo.  why build up a name like the tsx and then replace it?  i agree on all the point re: the design.  it has some interesting elements but no strong direction.  honda seems to be muddling through there design process.  i suppose all their good designers where working on the nsx concept.

Nice car...

But I don't know why they keep on calling the CSX and upscale Civic. The Civic is a dumbed down CSX.

Is the CSX not Acura's best selling model?  I know the EL was at a time...

that's not much to brag about.  they need to be going up market, improving the materials and quality of cars they produce.  their target should be audi not nissan.

And the CSX has the old RSX 2.0l K-series engine.

The new sheet metal will make a difference in sales but if Acura could find a diesel engine for the ilx Acura could sell every one they made.

Acura needs to decide how they are going to differentiate themselves from Honda.  They can't even create three properly distinctive sedans.   Are they an awd version of Honda or will they start creating rwd cars like Infiniti Lexus Mercedes and BMW.  Personally I think they are going in the right direction with the nsx.  Awd hybrids all across the board.   Push their own mantra.  Honda used to always be about fuel efficiency.  This way Acura could lead the way.

I'm not sure about that. Audi, BMW, Lexus and maybe Cadillac are pretty heavy hitters. I think Acura should decide what they are and go for the middle luxury ground.

I think there is a market. Acura could offer luxury at a reasonable price unlike the unreliable and overpriced offerings from Germany.

It seems to work for Infiniti...

I thought Acura was supposed to be the Generation X/technology enthusiast's automobile? All the gadgets you could ever want, without the price tag of an S class?

I certainly agree they need something to differentiate themselves, and their models.

I certainly don't think the TL AWD (available with a manual tranny) is a rip off with its exceptional handling and bus load of tech goodies for $46K

Indeed. The TL is a pretty solid deal. The unfortunate part is the styling.

I don't think it will be overly difficult to fit all 3 of these sedans. They did it in Canada...

I think Acura could do pretty well if they would just suck it up and admit their styling needs work. FWD isn't a huge detriment to the moderately successful yuppie crowd, and AWD just isn't a huge deal in many parts of the US. Couple that with tons of gadgets, nicely put together interiors, solid pricing and excellent reliability and you have a sale.
Everything in life is relative.

I agree and see many around Oakville. I think it is a great package...better with 50 more HP  :)

I'm one of the weirdos who doesn't mind..and even likes the styling.  The black exterior with saddle brown interior looks great IMO.

Same here, I don't get hung up on styling as others.
