Considering 2007 BMW 525 XI
« on: January 03, 2012, 07:08:11 pm »
The latest car I am interested in is a 2007 BMW 525 XI that is being sold privately for $27,500, it only has about 40,000 km and is in mint condition. It also comes with winter tires on rims.  Some of you may be familiar with my blog about my car buying adventure at www.nlcarblog.blogspot.com detailing my exploits over the past couple of months.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the 2007 bmw 525 or if they think it is a reasonable deal.  It also has nice dakota leather and idrive.  The winter tires look brand new and the low mileage makes me think it is a good deal.

All feedback greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

You should search for 5-series forums.

Did you test drive it?  I'll be very honest.  I test drove a 2006 325 and felt it was kinda anemic.  But that was an auto, it was new, and that was just me.

Did the 5-series come with a sports package option?  Again, this is all personal but BMWs should not come without the sports package (suspension, seats, steering wheel) IMO!  :)

EDIT: Just google'd it.  Yes, sports package was an option.

525xi is going to be a bit sluggish.

I would try to find a 530xi, much beefier engine. Funny, I was thinking about E60s today. Used prices tend to be pretty reasonable, especially in the US.

+1. Hammy, have you test driven it yet?

My dad was interested in a 2006 325xi 2 years ago, but it felt slow (coming from a TSX). He then tried a 330xi, but didn't like handling due to the extra weight. He bought a 2006 RWD 330i instead.

So, based on that, the 525xi would probably be alot slower and less nimble due to its larger size.
Mine: 2004 Acura TSX
Family: 2005 Honda Odyssey EX, 2006 BMW 330i

did not ovr 50 have a 530 xi ?

No, ovr had the twin-turbo 535xi.

The twin-turbo would take care of the weight fine.

530i or xi would be much better choice.

Oh and, xi or x-drives don't come with the sport suspension, even with sports package.  Which is fine if you want the x-drive.  I put a smiley next to my comment about the sport package because not everyone wants it and that doesn't mean it doesn't drive fine.

That's in a span (7 series aside) of like 3 years isn't it?

I tried very hard to sell my mom on an X3 35i, but my conscience got the better of me. :)

Whats that? You thought that as a banker I had no conscience? :)

I'm sure if you could have made money off your mom by her buying the X3, you would have talked her into it.... ;D

Not directly. I would have liked driving it more than the GLK though. I guess that is value. ;D

mmret, you need to take a look at the 550i, post-facelift.  My neighbour got once recently, CPO.  It's black on this brown leather with the M Sport package.  He's an enthusiast too (bad combo for neighbours  :rofl2:).  It looks and sounds so good, for a moment, I thought about calling up my salesman and saying, "Hey, find me a 550i...."

Oh and Hammy, all 5-series has the iDrive standard. It may or may not have navigation though.

Similarly, the new 3-series will be the same.

Thanks Julie, it was probably the base model he had then.  I don't like the sound of the sluggish comments, although I can certainly see how it would be considering its size.  I didn't test drive it yet but if I sell the Pilot I probably will.

Thanks again
