Ford TPMS
« on: December 30, 2011, 10:12:08 pm »
As some of you already know, I now own a 2008 Ford Focus SES. I ordered a set of winter tires, rims and TPMS sensors from tirerack.com. I already received them and installed them on the car. I also bought an OEM Ford TPMS tool. I searched for specific instructions on programming the TPMS on the Focus, but did not find them. I found instead pretty good instructions for the Fusion. Since I had noting much to loose, I decided to try them and they worked! Here are those instructions form the Ford Fusion Club forum. The only thing different was that the sensors on mine are NOT opposite the valve, they are at the valve.

Whatya pay for the sensors and tools and where from.  Just like to compare prices from one brand to another.

I got it all from tirerack.com, so prices in USD.

OEM FORD TPMS TRIGGERING TOOL (the same exact thing as in the pictures on the Fusion Forum) $45

LEAR 315MHZ STRAP SENSOR          4 x $58  = $232
ADJUSTABLE FORD TPMS STRAP       4 x $14  = $ 56
FORD TPMS STRAP SENSOR CRADLE 4 x $ 9   = $ 36

Total for TPMS: $369 + tax & duty

Wow!....that's pretty steep to turn off an idiot light in the dash. Does Ford win the prize for the "highest cost added to winter rims for TPMS?"

Damn! Almost $400 for TPMS. I personally wouldn't have spent that. I would've put some black tape over the light. Ouch!

Holy crap.....an extra $400 over the allready inflated cost we pay for rims and tires up here in Canada. Unless the idiot light affected another safety system or something, it would just be lit for 6 months of the year if it was me. My buddy got a set of winter rims and tires for his Nissan truck, the sensors were going to be $250-300, so, hes running with the TPMS light on  ;D

If that's what you think you probably don't want to hear what the entire winter tire package cost...

I've never run TPMS sensors in the winter.  Certainly not worth it for the cost and I'm more than happy putting up with the dash light.

I can't remember for sure (I bought them on eBay four years ago), but I think the sensors for the Suburban were around $80 each. And no special tool required for resets.

Well worth the $320 IMO. Not only would the light drive me crazy, but the GM system is actually useful - it gives an exact reading of tire pressure at each corner.

I couldn't live with the light on. I'd have to pony up for the sensors.

I'm the same. Luckily neither the ML or the BMW use sensors so nothing had to be added to a winter wheel and tire package. I think we paid about $200 for a set for the Mini.

No TPMS on the Outback in Canada for some reason, so that was a money saver.

TPMS at Tire Rack is a lot cheaper than buying them from your local Ford dealer...I know, I got mine there too.  Funny thing is I never had them "programmed" to my vehicle, and the light still hasn't gone on.  So I'd calla BS on Fords even needing the things in the first place.  Total waste of money (the only reason I got them was because my wife didn't want to drive a new car with a warning light on...and they don't even work like their supposed to, or in this case, not supposed to, anyway...).
