I know 3 folks who (allegedly) smoke marijuana, and all 3 of them have suffered from an anxiety attack. None of my non-smoking friends have suffered such an attack. While this may just be a really odd coincidence, I'm not sure the stuff chills you out as much as people think...
I've been around a few heavy pot smokers, and that's not my crowd for sure. The good thing about it is the low-pay jobs will be filled with less competition in the higher-pay bracket. Everyone's happy and public toilets are clean.

Actually, that's usually strain-related.  There are 2 major popular strains.  Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Sativa.  And the type of stone from each is quite different.  To sum up, an Indica stone is more of body stone and can be very relaxing.  It usually puts the mind and body at ease.  Sativa on the other hand is a very cerebral stone or a head stone.  Some have lots of energy with a very active mind.  Some musicians and artist preferred this type because they felt it made them more creative.  Depending on type, it can also produce a bad trip, paranoia or anxiety similar to (but much, much less potent) than LSD.

Heavy use of anything can have adverse effects.  Many people use marijuana recreationally are and able to hold high pay/important jobs...though I would imagine they don't do it at work!!

This. I've certainly met people who fit your typical definition of "stoner". But I've met many more than are high-functioning members of society who smoke regularly (if not habitually). I think some of the names of people who smoke weed would surprise you if it all became suddenly public...

Equating all pot smokers with the typical stoner stereotype is like equating anyone who drinks alcohol with the stereotypical alcoholic. There are people that fit that mould... but it's not representative of your typical marijuana user.

That's a laugh!  One day I was taking a walk during my lunch break around the hospital where I worked. As I walked around the back of the building, I got a snoot-full of Mary Jane smoke. That in itself wasn't too unusual because of the street people that sometimes hung out there, but this time it was something else. The smoke was obviously coming from a parked car, and as I got closer to it I saw three of our now very mellow doctors inside.  :rofl2:

I spoke to my supervisor about it and she just laughed. Everyone knew these guys were dopeheads, and they weren't the only ones. Hell, my own family doctor was one of the guys in the car!

One of the methods police in the US use to determine find driver's who are stoned is they look for people who are driving UNDER the speed limit...

Along with other problems stoned drivers cause, this is definitely one of them.  Back in my experimental days, I partook in the occasional joint.  Late one evening while sharing a joint with a friend, I was driving along one of Vancouver's main streets.
Up ahead a traffic light went red so I stopped for it.
When it turned to green, I continued driving until it went red again, waited for it to turn green, and then started driving again.
It went red again, I stopped, it went green and I drove.
Again it turned red, again I stopped, again it turned green and finally I got past it.
I think at that point we realized what had happened and started laughing hysterically.
Yup, I stopped at least 4 times for the same red light, so we must have been driving sloooooooooooooooooooooow.
Good thing the streets were quiet that night.
If god didn't want us to eat baby animals, he wouldn't have made them so tastey.

HMM...so I was driving home from school last night at 3 AM, and this Dodge Ram in front of me was going 10 km/h under the limit, and had a slow rxn time for green lights (I had to honk after 5 sec.). Other than that, his driving was fine. Not sure if he was drunk (hope not), or high or... :pimp:

I smoke occasionally to take the edge off. I know of a couple of people much much higher up who smoke as well.

I've never gotten anxiety attacks, but  twice I've felt sick. Mind you I don't smoke a lot, <1g at a time, maybe once a week with a friend. It makes me eat and it lets me sleep at night. No hangovers, weed is much cleaner than alcohol. Sometimes I can't sleep, my doctor prescribed me some meds.. Sleeping pills? Anti depressants? No thanks. When enjoyed responsibly weed is not worse than alcohol. Hell some studies showed that nicotine and alcohol are as addictive as heroin and cocaine. Weed? Dead last.
