Honda Recall Get's Worse
« on: December 02, 2011, 11:10:46 am »
http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/story/2011-12-02/honda-recall/51579826/1

The stats:
  • 304,000 vehicles added to recall bringing the total to 2 000 000
  • 20 accidents related to this recall and 2 deaths in the US

You think the Volt recall is getting expensive.....how much would it cost to replace two airbags in 2 million cars?

Wow! 2 million ticking time bombs - literally! But we shouldn't be too hard on Honda. The current fashion is to praise automakers for issuing recalls is it not?

if I had onbe of the affected cars I think I would remove the airbag fuse and wait for 6 months until the rush has died down.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

???  ??? If this was a seatbelt-related recall would you stop using those as well?

NO, of course not.   Some seatbelt systems do have explosive high speed tensioners that are fired in a crash but they are NOT right in front of my face, they are way down in the door pillars.

I was thinking of the rush of the 300,000 people in the queue at the dealer to get the airbags fixed.

What kind of luck would you have to have to be the owner of the one Honda recalled in the UK?  ;D

Well, if it was my family's safety at risk I'd be one of those '300,000 people in the queue', but that's just me, I guess.

Schmengie  you are missing my point.  I would rather live with just the seat belts than take a tiny risk of being blinded by bits of airbag.  I would wait until the fuss had died down and it was possible to get an  convenient appointment at the  dealer and then take it in...so I might be driving airbagless for a couple of months.  After all I drove without an airbag for nearly 30 years.

God forbid!........and you lived? I bet you didn't have ABS, ESC, TSC and all those other acronyms either. You were a danger to society. If I find out that you once drove with 2 snow tires and 2 summer tires, I'm calling the cops!  :)

Take me away...I'll go quietly.

Actually that TR6 was pretty good in the snow with skinny 15" studded snow tires on the back. ;D

Yes.  My first 2 winters in Canada in Montreal.  RWD Pinto with just 2 snows on the rear.  That's what people did in those days.
