Need Advice
« on: November 24, 2011, 04:02:43 pm »
We are planning to buy a car but a little confuse and need some advice. I have 3 kids one is newborn 2nd one is 2 years and elder one is 7 years. I would like to know if I will purchase a car, Whether it can occupy 5 of us i.e. 3 kids my spouse and obviously myself, and if the ontario law allow the same.

Thanks in Advance
Ali

Sure as long you have a child seat for the 2year old a baby seat for the new little one and everyone has a seat belt your fine.
NO kids sitting on laps or the back window area (those days are over)

Maybe the Spouse on the roof if you tie them down nice and tight!

Only joking on the last one,
the roof is for the in-laws

If you're planning to get a compact, you'll need a narrow car seat designed for compacts like the Combi Coccoro. Pricey but nice seats. Standard forward facing seats are pretty wide.

I found the Hyundai Elantra to be a really good size for a family of five.

Mini van all the way. Power lift gate so you can fiddle with the stroller etc, power sliding doors for the kids so they will spare the cars next to you!

Unfortunately the market is very dry of midsize and fullsize wagons/hatchbacks, thanks to the excessive and mammoth SUV's taking over our roads. So, you are left with 2 choices: midsize/compact car (tight squeeze for 5 but it can be done), or a minivan/CUV. If appearances and stereotypes don't bother you, get a minivan - they are hands down the best method to economically transport lots of people and stuff. If prices are a concern, I'd look at a used Honda Odyssey - it consistently ranks as one of the best minivans on the market.

A car is not going to easily accommodate the child seats you will neat, at least not quality child seats.  Sure you could do it, but every outing will require the patience of Gandhi.  Like others, I would run with a minivan.  If you don't like them, then all the better.  You will not care where you park it, who dings it and how big a mess the kids make in it.

Choice is clear: Mercedes E55 AMG wagon with the rear facing jumpseats.

Mazda 5 should get you the space you need.

I may have jumped the gun on the AMG. A cheap used Chrysler van so the kids can fill it with crumbs and puke.
