They used to do this with bikes with sidecars as well.   Even crazier especially for the sidecar rider.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

The official lap record for the Snaefell Mountain Course is 17 Minutes and 12.30 seconds at an average speed of 131.578 mph (211.754 km/h) set by John McGuinness during the 2009 Senior TT Race.

WOW!  That is insane.

I can't get over how they catch air, come down all squirrelly and keep it pinned.

^ No kidding.  I guess that's why there has been 237 deaths during that race since it started.  Just crazy!

Yes, it's utterly insane. You can search on youtube for David Jefferies onboard for a lap around the course.

There's some more crazy road racing to be found on youtube by searching for Ulster Grand Prix (http://youtu.be/JkT1mcgGAc0?t=15s), Southern 100 or Cookstown 100 (http://youtu.be/a6xlL2BmPOI?t=43s).
How absurd men are! They never use the liberties they have, they demand those they do not have. They have freedom of thought, they demand freedom of speech.

Exactly why two wheeled racing is so much more exciting than anything on four wheels. WRC maybe comes close.

Rider skill is way ahead of driver skill. Motorcycle world champs have become F1 champs, but never the other way around.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

The most dangerous race in the world..even more than Isle of Mann is the Macau GP.  You fall off, you're hitting concrete walls or armco.  Even some Isle of Mann guys think Macau is unsafe.  LOL

As far as 2 wheels vs 4, Rossi has been doing some rallying in this off season.  Gave Sebastian Loeb a run for his money...

I loved reading about Mike-the-bike Hailwood and the TT races.  It's always been one of the "ultimate" motorcycle races, pushing riders to the very limit.
No place I'd rather be...

I take it none of you have driven a snowmobile 160 kph at night down a logging road with the trees 3m away.

And Joey Dunlop who I believe has won it more times than anyone, unless things have changed.

The guy with the GoPro must be a seasoned climber, as he's not using via ferrata gear.  For the most part, the trail is wide and easy, but poorly maintained in a few places.  If the trail were 6" off the ground, no one would have any problem with it.  It's the height (and consequence of mis-stepping) that causes your brain to urge you to get down.  People don't eliminate their fear of heights.  They manage it, channel it, and come to enjoy the surge of adrenaline.
