Any possibility of the boss letting you telecommute a few days out of the week?

Nope no chance on the telecommute.
I was talking to someone today at work that happens to drive about 95km (one way) to work and she was telling me that its a pain in a*s and she has been doing it for 2yr. She was driving a 2006 Mazda 3 with about 130,000km. She only missed 3days of work last year due to the roads. Now where she is, houses are less pricey but 95km one way takes her about 1hr15min.

Well, if you currently drive about 28Km and  your new commute will be 60, you're basically doubling your distance so you can comfortably estimate that tires will last half as long, gas will go twice as fast and repairs...well, those get tricky. I know I drive a long ways for work and it becomes very expensive over time, and that is with an economical 4-cylinder compact, I couldn't put bread on the table if I had a Ranger. If you LOVE your truck, there isn't much to do - keep 'er going and make the drive. If you can live with a smaller car, get a used Honda Civic and pocket the $200-300/month you'll save in gas and maintenance compared to the truck. Better yet, save up that $300/month and in a few years go and buy yourself a brand-new Ranger!  ;D

well I live in Keswick and commute to 401/Bayview every day (126km) total (40MIN AM.. 45MIN PM DRIVE) .I drive a 02 civic and fill up on Sunday night and that gets me to Friday afternoon ( 750kms in warmer months) 650kms in winter..But i also start pretty early 6am-3pm. ;D ;D(in and out before the "REAL TRAFFIC STARTS"..would make that drive if i had a 9-5 job..would be looking at 4hrs a day in the car. >:( >:(.

Sorry I don't get it  ???

I guess that is not so bad, 40min to 45min dive, and civic's seem to be able to load up the KM on them.  The one point that people seem to forget is the $pay$.  Does what you make a work justify the amount of driving you do? making $20 an hour and driving in 60km (one way) to work (again what you drive madders too) is it worth it? what is the cut off of pay vs. commuting? some to think about. Working in TO and living in Hamilton, well cost of living is lower but your commuting dips into that as well.

Good point. I think that depends on your priorities, and that's different for everyone. If keeping your job is a priority, as is the home you currently have, then the drive is worth it. If however saving for a vacation is a priority, and you aren't really concerned about where you live, then moving may make more sense. It's all a juggling act and its different for everyone.
