Winter Tire Suggestions for 2012 Camry LE
« on: November 14, 2011, 02:22:08 pm »
I need to get some winter tires for my 2012 Camry LE and wanted to know what is a good tire to consider.  The size is P205/65R16

I was considering the Toyo Observe GSI5, or Blizzak WS70.  I am also open to other brands as well.

Can someone suggest some awesome winter tires for my new ride?

thanks

Where do you live?  What winter road conditions do you typically encounter?  Do you commute far?  What colour is your Camry?  ;D

I live in Toronto, Canada and drive thru mixed conditions (i.e. clean highways, snow, slippery roads, wet) and various distances (As far East as Cobourg, North to Newmarket and West to Georgetown/Milton).  The Camry is Magnetic Grey Metallic.  :)

How much are you willing to spend? Another factor you could consider is rebates currently being offered by quite a few tire manufacturers.

Three very popular (and best bang for the buck) winter tires among several GTA tire dealers include:

Hankook I*Pike W409
Gislaved NordFrost 5
General Altimax Arctic

I am sure any of the three would work fine for GTA roads....W409 are probably best of the three for handling (see Nov 2009 Consumer Report)....T-rated so the ride won't be as squishy (I do find my Generals to be a bit squishy...one of the few cons on these tires IMO). Get some prices from Simply Tires, GoforTires, Tires23, Joy City Tires, etc.

If icy roads are your biggest concern, get the Blizzak WS70 or Michelin XIce Xi2. Not sure on how long the WS70 will last from treadwear standpoint. On older Blizzaks, one common complaint was that the tread didn't last long. FWIW, it has been reported that the rubber compound on the WS70 is noticeably softer than other winter tires like the General Altimax Arctics.

I would look for more of an ice tire since you are from the GTA
