Was checking out pricing on the 3 Sport Skyactiv. In spring/summer may be in a position to get a new vehicle and the new engine /transmission combo along with the equipment that comes with Skyactiv for the price is very attractive.

My question revolves around this statement ion the website.

Quote
Please note that the combined down payment and trade-in value cannot exceed 25% of the selling price before tax. Please see dealer for details.

Yes I realize I could "see the dealer for details" but I simply am not in the market yet and don't want to discuss with them at this point. Wondering of anyone else has experience. Financing is 2.9 over 60 Months. I would hope to make a fairly substantial down payment that would be more than 25%. Are they saying that is you make too big a down payment you don't qualify for the cheaper finacing. It wouldn't make sense  but maybe someone has some experience or insight?

I have seen this on "build your car" sections on some manufacturers websites.   The financing thing only works up to a certain total deposit/trade in. I have always presumed that they need to make a profit somehow on the financing and it is not worth doing it  for less than a certian percentage of the cars cost... but that is just a guess.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I thought about that but this is not BANK financing where they would get a cut. This is manufacture subsidized financing that is well below prevailing rates so its hard to believe they are making $ from the financing.

It is referring to a lease only.

They will not allow more than 25% of MSRP down. (trade+cash)

I didn't know there was a difference. I  financed 2 mazdas at low rate financing [1.9 percent]. The loan was with The Bank of Nova Scotia both times.

Well often financing is through a manufacturers captive arm. If you are getting 1.9 % from a bank I'm guessing that its manufacturer subsidized. I mean would the bank of NS welcome 1.9% financing for no reason when joe average needs to pay 4% plus if they walk in the door? 1.9 is below prime. Banks don't give  $ away.

Oh I agree banks are going to want to make their cut. I could have went to my bank [cibc] and paid much more. I also got a lttle off the prices of the cars as well. These were miatas so maybe they just wanted to get them off the lot. I believe  mazda deals with the banks with there financing. They don't have a toyota credit or honda credit so to speak .
