Wheel rack at Lee Valley
« on: November 12, 2011, 11:02:14 am »
Check out this great wheel rack at Lee valley for just $40.  I got one shipped for an extra $10.  It's very well made and really H-D.  Compare at CTC for $130.

Ordered, thanks! I missed a couple of sales on racks already.

Osis, you'll love it.  I'm just gonna put mine up this afternoon.

That angle cross brace looks flimsy? Nice option though. BTW the CDN tire rack goes on sale every month or so for the $70 range. I also have a Princess Auto model similar to the Tire Rack version. That was $80 IIRC.

Not to me it doesn't.  After all, it is just used in tension.  I can't imagine how much of that it would take before it pulls apart.  In the interests of public service I just weighed one of my winter wheels - 50lbs.  So then that would be 200lbs for all four (my math skills are astounding eh?).  Lee Valley mentioned that the load capacity of the rack was 300lbs.

I estimated the weight of the Land Rover Wheels at 65lbs each (255/55-19) and the Ridgelines steel wheels feel even heavier. (245/65-17). I imagine the 300 lb rating is an engineer being conservative. I hope?

I'm sure I could find you the contact info on the box of the distributor if needed.  Maybe I wouldn't park the nose of my Vette under it.   ;D

Thats the problem. My heavy truck wheels are stored 4' above the nose of my truck. I always eye those wheels as I am pulling into the garage. To ease my fears I added a safety tie down through the wheel centers to hold them when my Chinese made tire rack eventually fails...

"...accommodates tires up to 26" in diameter..."

So it's not of any use for owners of CUVs, SUVs and trucks.

Nice catch. The devil is always in the details. Rack is a good deal for smaller wheels though. The LR3 is about 30 and the Ridge 29.5
