if this is to be a dedicated track car then I would not count out the RX8. Another wild car would be a higher mileage TTS, not RR's TT but a TTS. They chip some crazy HP numbers.
Here's one here stateside.

Any of the Infiniti/Nissan VQ cars. 350Z/G35/370Z/G37. Also Acura offers a 6-speed manual on the top of the line SH-AWD model, but it may be hard to find and personally I can't stand the looks of the 2010's with the massive silver beeks. Cadillac paired a few of their CTS sedans with the 3.6L DI V6 and 6-speed manual, but again it will be hard to find. Both the Acura and Cadillac offer high levels of luxury and comfort but with the stick they can be fun too.

I wish Nissan still offered the Maxima with a manual, that would have been a great car.

One car many people don't consider is Volvo. They had the S60R which has 300 hp, AWD and 6-speed manual with relatively low resale prices. I don't know what the reliability is like, but you know it'd be safe! You could also get the S40/V50 T5 with a turbo and 6-speed manual but they are smaller.

Mazdaspeed6 is in there as an option too, but again reliability isn't top notch.

I like the G35 more than the 37. I love the 370z but no rear seats rules it out. I've driven an auto G35 but should try the manual.
S60R were unreliable hence the low resale
Speed6..might try one but it seems the Speed3 is the better handler ad more practical as a DD so would be my preference among the Mazdas.

Has anyone done a test drive of a C350?
How would it compare to the 335 in terms of driving dynamics?

Don't some tracks have rules about convertibles?

You'd probably need a roll bar.
I wouldn't track one but James doesn't seem to have an issue with it.

uh...  congrats on selling mazda3.

secondly, i second the motion for m3.   ;D

but if i remember correctly, the twin turbo engine in 335 feels stronger than the e46 m3's s54 engine..

Interesting suggestion in the TL type S. I wouldn't have thought of that one. Thanks.
I'd take the 335i over an older M3 unless the price was right on the M3.

Thanks Railton re the TTS suggestion. How much HP when chipped?  I'll look it up.
I like the RX-8 a lot except for the engine issues.

Chipped TTS numbers - 322 horsepower and 321lb-ft. of torque.
The car also has launch control.

I would look at a WRX/STI and mod it for reliable fastness. Having modded a 2002 WRX, 2006 WRX, and a 2010 STI without a single issue speaks volumes for Subaru and Japanese engineering.

I have considered this and have followed your ownership thread over the years. iirc you're tall as well.
I will add it to the list.

I saw that and meant to post a link to a different ad.

It was an 08 with ~30,000 miles for $26 xxx.

Regarding your question, re 328 vs 335i.

The consensus seems to be the 328i is notably more fun with the manual than the 328i auto.  I tried an 328i auto with manual shifting on a quiet country road, revving it up well, and that motor is so smooth and sounds terrific!  It also feels a little lighter than the 335i.

But the 335i just has so much torque that it's worth the extra $ for the upgrade IMHO.  It's just another type of experience.  I have driven an E92 M3 *hard*, and that thing has more than enough torque (and goes deceptively fast)....  but the "feeling" of the torque down low in the 335i is another type of "pull you back into your seat" pleasure that even the best naturally aspirated engines cannot give you.  It only has slightly worse gas mileage than a 328i.

On the flip slip, you press the gas and wham!, 2 seconds later, you've passed the speed limit.  The 328i might give you a better opportunity to roll through the gears and rev the motor?

If an E46 M3 is a possibility, I would recommend a 2005 or 2006.  In addition to having the least problems and being the most well-sorted of that generation, it should also have the lowest miles and have better price/year & mileage ratio than older M3's, as depreciation really slows down the farther away you get from the 3-4 first years of a used car.  The problem of course is with selection.   I was casually looking for a while but have given up.
