2012 KTM Duke
« on: November 09, 2011, 05:33:19 pm »
Big bike show going on in Milan.  KTM showed the revised 2012 KTM Duke.  Looks like it will NOT be coming to North America this time around.  Pity.  This is by far the finest handling bike I've ever owned. 70HP, 335 lbs.

How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Did I hear right that the 690 engine now has a full 690cc displacement?

As much as I love the engine in my 690E, another 7HP wouldn't hurt.

They're all very nicely made using choice components.

Unfortunately, they don't make anything with a seat that you can sit on all day.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

I guess if you're fat, old or soft.  I've ridden my Duke all day with no worries.  Even had IQ on the back all day with no worries.  It's ain't no sport tourer, but it's isn't bad at all.

You must be thinking of the "old" KTMs.  The seats on those were like planks of wood.  Like my old KTM LC4 SM.  Now THAT seat was hard.  But that was early 2000s.  Much improved since then.

On the bigger bike, the SuperDuke, plenty of guys use them as sport tourers no problem.

Very nice! Wish I had room in the garage for multiple bikes. That 690 would be a killer urban bike.

I also hear good things about the new Multistrada S and the Panigale is now out on the Ducati web site.

BTW RR, did'nt you mention you had a 2 smoker coming up? I tought you meant a bike; don't tell me you meant cigars.  ;)

Yea..I ordered one before spring.  But the tsunami stopped all shipments and put the purchase in doubt.  Got an e-mail last week saying the 1st container since the tsunami was on the way over filled with bikes, so hopefully it's in there.....

Purchase of what?  ???

Only thing I can think of is YZ125 or 250.

Oh, FFS, what a tease...  ;)  ;D

So, with the tsunami comment, I assume it's coming from Japan?

And with the "I ordered it..." comment, I assume it's new?

And when you say "street bike", I assume you mean street legal?

Well, you've got me stumped...  ???

... Still, I'm going to guess that you found a cherry RG500 Gamma. If so,

That is awesome - even better than the RG500!

Any worries you may not be able to get it licensed in ON? I know it's not too hard to sneak a dubious bike past the AB registry guys, but thought it was harder in ON?

Or does that 15-year rule for cars also apply to bikes?

I gave them 4 choices for bikes...

1997 NSR250R MC28 "SE"

1993 NSR250R MC21

VFR400 NC30

RVF400 NC35

Any of these will work.  He says at least one of each are in the container...

Good question....but I already took that into consideration.  Quite a few companies offers tons of parts for these.  The best (IMO) is Tyga Performance. But you can still get parts for all of these bikes through your local dealer.  A Honda part is a Honda part...and they all come from Japan anyways.

http://tyga-performance.com/site/index.php

They even sell body kits to bring the bike's looks up to modern spec

I guess if you're fat, old or soft.  I've ridden my Duke all day with no worries.

I'm neither of those, but then I guess I should have said comfortable for 1600 km / 18 hour days. My GS does that easily and I can walk normally the next day.

What I was after some time ago was is a single with lots of range and comfortable. I need it to do many clicks on the highway and then handle some remote off road areas which is why I need 500 km range.

The KTM 640 was lacking in the comfort and range but was built.
