Boroken Hood Release Cable Wire
« on: November 08, 2011, 09:30:16 am »

My wife owns a 2004 Suzuki Swift 5 door hatchback. The cable release is broken, and due to not driving it I was wondering were abouts is the hood latch (center, left etc) I was going to try and open it using and stretched out coat hanger. Any ideas are most welcome.

I am not familiar with the Suzuki.  Generally the hood release is in the center because it includes the retaining mechanism for the hood and the second safety latch.  You can usually gain access to the release mechanism from under the car between the bumper and radiator.  The mechanism and its accessibility seems designed for such a situation as yours.

Good luck.

Thanks for that Art, much appreciated. I'll try that this week and see if we can attach a wire of some kind for access.

If you can get access to the hood release mechanism from underneath the car you won't need a wire.  Just reach up and pull the lever that the broken hood release wire is attached to.  The hood will be released and spring up to the safety position.  You can then release the safety and raise the hood and replace the cable.

Most all cars use this type of system, I have done it many times.

Good luck.
