Do I put best winter tires on front or rear
« on: November 07, 2011, 09:04:42 am »
I own a 328Xdrive.  I got a set of used winter tires. There is slight variance in tread depth. Two of tires have about 1 & 1/2 a 32nds of an inch more tread than the other two (IE 8 vs 9.5/32nds).

I was wondering if I should put the tires with the best tread on front or rear of car. I have read that rear tires wear faster on 328X drives so I was thinking of putting the best tires on rear to help even the wear out.

Thanks

i think either end would be fine.

rear's probably wear faster due to power being delivered and also more negative camber.

but it does have more weight at the front, so it's not a bad idea to have less worn tires in the front. (and also, your car being x, some power is at the front as well.)

my guess is, either would be fine.  ...

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Put the best on the rear...  The thought is, if the better tires are on the front, your rear end would be more likely to oversteer in a dicey situation... Which would be far worse if you are driving down the road, then an understeer.

Ok the best tires will go on the back.

Will a difference of 1 to 2 32nds of tread depth between axles screw up the all wheel drive on the car?

I keep hearing about how important it is to have same tread depth on all 4 wheels of of BMW X drive.

Thanks again.
