Really? .....I saw that ad and my first thought was "somebody at that ad agency had a 3 martini lunch with the Subaru exec who gave the OK".  ::)

Seriously...I find it amateurish and kind of silly.

I know what you're saying but for me it was trying too hard to be cute and quirky....sort of "so bad that it was good"....instead it's kind of like a joke that just misses the mark falls flat.

??? I think it hits the mark because it gets a reaction and is creative. What is your idea of a good automotive commercial? a bunch of young people 5'-1" tall piling into an econobox with a top ten song playing in the background? A clip of a car driving around some abandon road or street with more music playing and some mention of low leasing or financing rates?

Yeah, like we need another round of commercials with Keifer Sutherland or Sam Elliott voicing all the "tough" stuff trucks can do.  Or maybe some more CGI driver-less cars on generated roads doing pretty much nothing?

It's nice to see something different, and without the car maker taking themselves so serious.

My all time fave is still Porsche's ad with the 944 turbo at full lock on a skid pad with Alice Cooper's "Schools Out" playing.  Daaaaaamn that was good.

The Subaru ad was good...and I hadn't seen that 944 ad before... very good.

And 30 years ago there was this one which played about once in the USA before the Religious people took offence. Sadly this clip is stretched to 16:9 so the woman doesn't look like the "celebrity" she is supposed to look like.

I've seen that somewhere before. That was a really great ad. Now that I think of it,in answer to Snowman's question above... More often that not my idea of a good automotive ad is one for VW!  ;D

Great ad but that was not Alice Cooper's "School's Out".  That was Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze".

Is there already a thread somewhere on the forum dedicated to the best and worst car tv spots?

Of course!!  The ad with Cooper's song was the black car spinning, but damned if I can find a link.

As you stated, its creative and gets a reaction and I usually don't like any car commercials.

Not to worry.  I was thinking that you were referring to a different commercial.

There are several commercials that have apparently been lost to us.  Another Subaru commercial for which I have a fond spot is one for the Justy.  In it, twin nerds utter the line: "Does it have a motor?  Does it have a motor?"  (yes, they say it twice.)  I've seen references to it by others who remember the commercial but no links to the commercial itself.  :(

This Nissan Pathfinder commerical may not be for everybody. Watch with caution, don't remember it being aired in NA.
