as soon as honda makes a replacement NSX, with aluminium or some type of clever fibre and twin turbo v6/v8/v10 with 500hp, i would consider honda to be back in the game.   ;D

or venture into F1 again, since it's going to be force-fed I4 engines now, and show what's what.  (what being honda's legendary F1 engines, from 1.5L turbo to NA v10s)

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

OK given that they have not played with F1 yet, but they have with the 300-hp or so AWD Accent on the WRC circuit a few years ago with some marginal success. But it begs the question do you need a sports car to be a player or have cred? The NSX did not appear until close to 30 years after we started seeing Civic's up here in Canada. The brilliant Tau V8 is rumoured to be paired up with a Kia frame in the very near future. Not a supercar, but definetly a muscle car killer guaranteed to be a better handler and better built than anything the Big 3 could ever cough up.

Overall they have been going this way for a long time. I does not surprise me and as a former rep for the company I applaud their success.
Richard - that's my opinion and I stand by it.

This is true for Ms E-H, replacing the Civic with a Genesis Coupe
The Accord Coupe is a nice car too, but she prefers the design of the Genesis. I like the RWD and the price is better (with leather and sunroof).

I have to say that since Hondas kinda died for me with the NSX, Hyundai is gettign a lot higher on my list. They make a fine SUV and the Genesis coupes give me warm feeling in all the right parts......while honda....well its honda, never nearly as boring as Toyota but nothing to really make you say wow.

You know, I sort of agree. Honda appears to be still building yesterday's cars while their customers have moved on.

Hyundai is definitely there with mainstream cars but that is it.

Granted toyota has no sports cars in the current line up, the FT-86 and Subaru BRZ made me say wow.

Checking Consumer Reports, Hyundai is still a notch below Honda and Toyota on the reliability front, but right on their heels.  They have interesting products and they are on a roll as far as increasing brand awareness, so they are probably the most serious threat to Honda and Toyota right now.  However, I think Ford is really the company to watch.  They are coming from behind, and are making the right moves at the right time.  Adding great small cars in a down economy is perfect, and they saved big development dough by not creating separate lines for Yurp and NA.

In terms of mass appeal products, there has never been more competition.  But, in terms of enthusiast machines, some makers (Honda, Toyota notably) have stepped away, leaving car-nuts wanting.  That said, if you're in the upper end of the market, the dollar/hp ratio has also never been better.  500hp and more for ~$100K?  Really?  A $100K Nissan that runs with, or trounces, the best that the Yuros can bring?  Geez.
No place I'd rather be...

Agreed, the light weight and tuneability of these two cars will be a game changer in my opinion.

Honda still does a lot of things really well but it does seem like they've rested on their laurels in terms of technical R&D (and jumped the shark styling wise).

I haven't driven many of them but I'd say this current crop of cars has Hyundai almost at parity with the elder H. Given current momentum, in 5 years things will indeed be reversed.

(I'm actually a little more excited about Kia than Hyundai as I prefer their exterior and interior styling esp the Optima).
Everything in life is relative.

Oh hell yeah, those are awesome......I just am waiting to see if they do to the Colonies what they do with everything else cool, not available in North America.

When they get this nailed down as well as better steering feel then they will be the new Honda .

Lets give the whole "steering feel" thing to Honda (and given that I'm an S2K owner I would certainly agree)..........but in what other ways is Honda's current line up surpassing Hyundai's?

None for the moment , but I don't count Honda out yet , There next NSX should be good .
Hopefully they will redo their entire line down the road . I like the way Hondas drive so I will always like them .

Yea, but the NSX just isn't relevant.  Very few will be able to own them.
How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

Exactly my point.  I've always loved Honda's driving dynamics as well, but they are falling WELL off the pace with respect to their competition.  I'm guessing 95% of the buying population don't give a rats azz about driving dynamics and only about looks, features, value, etc.  Hyundai, Kia, Ford, etc seem to be winning out on that front these days.

Honda has rested on it's laurels too long
Ford is on the right track
For driving dynamics Kia and Hyundai have a ways to go yet but the general public should be happy with them .
Looking forward to the next gen of Mazdas
The Toy/Sub is a given.

If memory serves....in multi-car tests/reviews...the Fiesta has lost to the Fit.  The Fusion has lost to the Accord.  The Escape has lost to the CR-V.  And the Explorer has lost to the Pilot.

What track is Ford on in that nearly every car they make has lost in a comparo to Honda??
