New Honda Accord EX-L V6 Break In Question
« on: October 25, 2011, 12:13:32 pm »
So I just picked up this 2010 Accord EX-L V6 brand new a couple weeks ago in White with the Ivory Interior. So far I am loving it! Very impressed with the fit and finish compared to the previous generations and I can see having this car for years to come...

My question is regarding the best break in procedure. There seems to be a few varying opinions and I am wondering if there are any fellow Accord owners here and what they did during their break in period and what, if any, type of effect it had on your performance and/or fuel economy? Any insights would be appreciated!

A couple of weeks ago?  How many km?
Probably as broken-in as modern cars get.   I'd probably just change the oil early for the first go and otherwise enjoy.

..I'd break into that white on white bread..ya moving to MIAMI .... avoid Blizzards and keep the Tach (it does have one?) below
4 or so K for the first 1,000 but vary the speed and revs...that's wot most manuals say............revving it like ya STOLE it is for MotorBikes and Can Driver Video GAMERS... :bang:

THERE IS NO CURE FOR "LOTUS"......ONLY TREATMENT.....

It's my wife's car really, and she is a stay at home mom so it only has about 600kms on it so far. I have been keeping the revs down below the 4k mark and have not hammered on it as of yet (and my wife says the same thing, but can I really be sure? lol). I think I will play cautious and give it this second tank of fuel before testing it out.

IMHO, you can "hammer on it" as long as you keep the revs down.  In fact it's arguably a good thing to open up the throttle at lower revs to seat the rings properly. (popular theory amongst bikers)
But with 600km, that period has probably already passed.

Production tolerances are so tight today, that engines are essentially broken in when you get them.

I'd define essentially as
that the machining  tolerances are such
that the materials used  are such
that the assembly tolerances are such

that no significant further wear and surface erosion of metal from the moving parts will occur as long as the  specified lubrication* is maintained... for a very long time or  very high mileage.

* grade of oil, oil change interval, filter specification and change interval , temperature range specified are adhered to.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I just bought this after owning an Infiniti QX56 for a long time... A V6 is an improvement!  :rofl2:

Not "worried" about fuel economy, but I do like to be as efficient as possible with whatever vehicle I am driving at the time... I don't care what the engine size is.
