All Aboard the Fail Train: Fisker Karma's dismal MPG
« on: October 19, 2011, 09:06:43 pm »
The Fisker Karma just got its EPA sticker...and what a failure!!  32 miles on electric and a mere 20MPG on the "range extending" gas engine.  Oh..and 5,6000lbs!  FAIL!!

How fast is my Supra?  I sh*t on Cessnas from a roll....

I thought the Karma looks terrible too. Combined with that mileage and price, whoa.

The Tesla Model S holds much promise IMO though.

That is pretty bad for a hybrid, and pretty ugly.

But 20MPG combined is on par with its 'competitors'  The S550 is 18MPG and the 740i is 20MPG as well.  Only the A8 is better at 21MPG.

I dunno, I think for a 5600lbs getting the same mileage as ~4500lbs cars isn't a total failure.

The real failure is making the car so damn heavy to begin with.

It gets the same mileage as a Lexus LS600hL. So not a total failure (although I can't imagine buying one over the Lexus).

Comparing this car to a Volt is stupid... they're different machines entirely.

Well the LS600H is not a plug in.  Oh and Lexus wasn't telling us that the LS600h car was going to "revolutionize the auto industry".  Nor did Lexus claim the car would achieve 100MPG.

His claims get even better.  Says he's going to sell 100,000 cars by 2013!!

I think the take-away lesson here is, don't believe the marketing hyperbole. But that's nothing new. :D

The Volt is far from a looker, and won't do 0-60 any quicker than 8.5 seconds.
