Recommendations for P255/65R18?
« on: October 15, 2011, 09:03:51 am »
I have an 09 Traverse with 75k km; all on the OE GoodYear Forteras. They do need replacing and I want to get better quality All Season. My first choice is the OEM size but I am having great difficulty obtaining a very good tire in such a size. I was willing to spring for Michelin Latitude Tour MI but it appears "my" size ie P255/65R18 won't be available until 2012. So this past week I decided on Bridgestone's BW DUELER H/L 422 ECOPIA. I called a few retail stores and these tires seem to be (significantly) back ordered. Of course I am open to recommendations and I guess as a 2nd choice I may need to change the size ie go to 265/60R18.

I don't know which Fortera you had, but they are quite up there in quality.  Are you looking for more off-road capability?
Anything you didn't like about them?

The BFG Long Trail is one of the few others that appear to be offered in that size.

Anything you didn't like about them?

I was thinking that these OEMs should have lasted more than 75k kms and it is my opinion that they are (too) noisy.

I have tracked down the Toyo Versado CUV in the OEM size ie P25565R18. I hope to get them installed later this week.

[Update: These Toyos are now on and I do notice a positive difference re ride and noise as compared to the OEs (albeit on their last legs)]
