That blue MSport is very cool.

The one thing some of the BMW forums posters had noted and didn't particularly like was that the F30 hood opens back of the badge, and doesn't include the entire front to the kidney grills, ie. there is a noticable hood line in the front. Might be less prominant in the "real", rather than in photos. Not a real biggie.

Yeah, when I first saw the new 5 series and then the spy pics of the new 3-series showing that line, I thought, "Oh no!"  I really didn't like it.  But now I've had time to get used to it, it doesn't seem bad to me now.

I also still think, as nice and aggressive as the front of the new 3-er looks, there's something awkward in its profile, a bit like its face was squished in or something (like a 5-series was squished into a 3 series).  I find it most noticeable in profile view.

I also don't like the new M Sport steering wheel.  Why couldn't they make it like the new X3 M Sport steering wheel? - that's perfect.

But I know from experience, I'm going to like it more over time.  And overall, I think it's a good-great looking design.

The spy pics of the new M3 sedan looks like it has slightly better proportions.  (People micro-analyzing and blowing up comparison shots of the front, for instance, show there is a difference)

E90 vs. F30 Luxury Line

Still no cupholders I see  ;)  Seriously, I really do think I prefer the old interior.

It is a mark of BMW's innate superiority that it has no cupholders or at least, one that are unusable.   ;D

Part of me begrudging acknowledges that the new 3 is still a good looking machine but the other part of me hates the fact that the 3 5 and 7 series look basically like the exact same car only in different sizes.  How boring is that?  Good on BMW for going with the 4 cylinder turbo.

Ovr.  If it has a fluid coupling aka a torque converter  then to me it is a slushbox.   I cannot argue about its goodness...as slushboxes go.  ;D    As BMW have a DCT that fits the 3 series I wonder why they would not put it in the new cars. As the DCT has enough capacity for an M3 it should be reliable in any lesser 3-er even the diesels.

True, the DCT handles the V8 in the M3. I have no idea why not used in the new 3 Seies, cost perhaps?

I'm willing to bet it's consumer perception. Your average 3-series buyer knows next to nothing about cars and bought the vehicle for the badge on the nose. That's fine, but this type of buyer is used to conventional transmissions. Ford is getting a ton of complaints from Fiesta and Focus buyers about transmission problems that are simply normal conditions of a DCT.

I'm willing to bet that if BMW put a DCT in the regular 3-series, they'd get complaints. To the uninformed, different can be perceived as "wrong" or "broken."

 :iagree:

The same reason that Audi uses 8AT instead of 7DSG on most of their models.

Just like the new 5 and 6, blame Euro pedestrian safety rules.  >:(

In side profile IMHO the E90 is superior...somehow looks more "serious" and better proportioned. The overhangs look slightly shorter to me.

I assume 335s still get twin split pipes instead of two on the same side?

Excellent!!! One more reason to trade the 330i in :D Haha just kidding...my dad loves his 330i, a rare car now. Perfect balance of power and economy with the silky smooth 3.0 I6 with 255 hp.

There are now "American cupholders" in front of the shifter (where the ashtray used to be).  There are elegantly covered when not in use.

Interiors of the Sport, Modern and Luxury Lines (gee, what corny names, especially "luxury"  ::)  )

Sport:

Modern:

Luxury: (This one has the lovely darker brown leather.  I prefer this to the beige)

Do like the F30, both inside and out. Making it larger and lighter at the same time is no simple task.

What is that button, at its clearest in the first of Julie's pics of the interior   Post #33.   Looks like two car ideograms partly superimposed with a Antenna symbol beside?    I wonder.   Talk between cars?

Seems to be beside the CD player.

I think there is some inter-BMW communication system coming. It does stuff like warning of accidents or oncoming BMW motorcycles.

It sort of seems like owning one of the first fax machines.

EDIT: what determines the interior you get? That red line across the Sport version is pretty awful, but I'd be sad if I couldn't get sport seats without aforementioned awful red stripe.
