Product Review: DP Dual Action Odor Eliminator
« on: October 04, 2011, 05:34:11 pm »
The previous owner of the Audi TT was a smoker.  I wasn't too worried about being able to get the smell out, since I have plenty of upholstery cleaner, my Little Green Machine and practice.  But even though I cleaned the interior and all fabric pristinely, the was still a faint lingering odor of stale cigarette smoke.  Bleh.  My upholstery cleaner is DP (Detailer's Pro Series) and it's fantastic.  I knew they had an odor eliminator and it had really great reviews, so I decided to give it a try.

The product contains an odor neutralizer so odors are not just covered up by scent.  The can is 5 oz and contains a spray nozzle that can be locked down and allows for fogging.  The scent is "Just Detailed".  It's a very light scent IMO.  The contents are good for 6,000 sq feet.  I decided to go with the fog method.  With all the windows rolled up, I set it on the fogger.  I put the can in the cup holder and let it spray with the doors closed for maybe a minute.  The interior of the car was completely filled with fog.  After a minute, I quickly opened the doors and took the can out, then let the car sit for 2 hours per the recommendation.  After the 2 hours, the car was aired out for 30 minutes.  There was no residue of any kind that I could detect on the dash, glass, etc.

It's been about a week since I did the fogging and the cigarette smell is still gone!  I was fairly sure the product would work due to the amazing reviews I had read before...but I was still a bit skeptical.  Not anymore.  This is a great product for anyone who has stubborn smells in their car.  Tobacco, mildew, wet dog, whatever.  Completely killed the smell.

At only $8.99 per can from EShine.ca, this is a great product for a great price.

It will be interesting to see how long this lasts. Is it just masking the odor or did it really eliminate it?  ???

Cigarette smoke is hard to get rid of - it seems to settle in every nook and cranny so if this product eliminates it altogether, that would be fantastic.

It's not supposed to mask, it's supposed to neutralize.

Here's a better review than mine.  http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/34869-dp-odor-eliminator-review.html

Just like Febreeze!  ;D

I'd love to find something that works but I've seen many products over the years claim to remove smoke smell. So far they have all been defeated by sitting in the sun for a few days at 30 degrees.

For many people a vacation isn't one, if you HAVE to stay connected.  :rofl2: Watch me and learn. :) I promise to be internet free the whole time we are gone.

Not the case with this one.  The Audi HAS been sitting in the sun for the past week.  That was also my test.  As you say, the smell seems to creep back with a little time and heat.  I'm happy to report this isn't the case.  This product is a keeper!

For smoker cars you gotta seam clean the carpets, seats if fabric, and the headliner.  Then spray it with some masking BS.  Works good.  :)

Ok, since Saf is taking it easy...

It's one magic can that neutralizes smells and is known for making a pleasant "ka-ching" sound, for some. Nice plug  ;D

Yes but, do you still smell the "just detailed" scent. If so, maybe that is covering up the cigarette smell.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

No, no smell now at all.  No odor, no masking, no Just Detailed scent.
