Who needs a family hauler that can do 60 mph in 5.8 seconds? Give me the four cylinder, please.

0-60: 5.8s fastest in category  :o

Not surprising.  The old one as damned quick, and the new one has the same motor.

Oh, and Vanstar - since when do people only ever buy as much car as they "need"?  The automotive landscape would be pretty dull if they did.

Maybe  so. But the 50-70 ( mph) in 3.7 is worth having for passing on a 2-laner.

True, I find the 258 hp in my car hardly adequate. My next purchase must have at least 400 hp. That will make my 50 km/h average speed much more satisfying.

I was impressed with the power of the V-6, but the nature of the delivery is also terrific.  Pulls hard and linear, very satisfying.  I've driven a Camry, Highlander and Venza with it, and the lighter Camry (in SE form) is a pretty decent performer.
No place I'd rather be...

It's a sweet, strong motor, no doubt.  Worth noting as well that this o-60 time of 5.8 seconds is all of a half second off the pace that C/D got for the fire-breathing hell-yeah-that-thang-got-a-Hemi 5.7l 300C they just tested.

Vanstar - there are an abundance of 4-pot Camries out there for you.  You can even get one in Beige.  No-one needs interesting colours, either.

Jaeger, I tend to purchase higher end vehicles at this stage of my life and in my opinion anyway, a family sedan, which is what is Camry is, is better with a 4 banger. It is not much of a move up from a loaded V-6 Camry to an Acura or a BMW.

That is my opinion, anyway. You don't have to get nasty.

I know you are being sarcastic, but to enthusiasts who love the rush of power even if it is for a few seconds during a highway on-ramp, that statement is true.

There are probably a dozen times everyday I wish I had my WRX's power when commuting to work...in rush hour....in Toronto.  Commuter cars with small, slow engines do not cut it for me and never will.

Nor do such cars work for me. My TL is hardly underpowered and I also enjoy my rare (extremely rare) rushes of power that I can experience in Vancouver's awful traffic. It might happen a couple of times a week on these parts the traffic is so bad.

I don't drive bread and butter sedans but I have been in Camry rentals many times and the four cylinder equates itself exceptionally well. It would be, and again this is just my opinion, a better buy for a family sedan and very likely to be much cheaper to insure.

Better to enjoy highly powered, low cost cars while we can. They are definitely on the way out with new CAFE laws in the USA.

Fully agreed, the Camry makes more sense for a Camry buyer with a 4 pot, but the question "Who needs a family hauler that can do 60 mph in 5.8 seconds?" I answer "Me"  :D

The 300HP Impala I rented in Edmonton this week was basically an oxymoron on wheels, but still fun to hit the go pedal :skid:

Me too.  And Toyota obviously has a strong business case for contunuing to offer the V6 to "Camry buyers", else they wouldn't.

High power FWD vehicles just don't feel right though. Toyota needs to bring back the Cressida.

When my uncle bought his 2010 V6 Camry, he remarked how smooth and powerful the 3.5L V6 felt - and that the 2.4L felt underpowered, especially for passing on the highway.  But now that Toyota uses the 2.5L instead of the 2.4L, I wonder if the extra power would have changed his mind.  I suspect not, he really loves that V6.

Ironically, he said that was not the case when test driving Altimas - the 2.5L had sufficient oomph, and while the 3.5L V6 had more yet, it wasn't nearly the difference as the 4- to 6-cylinder in the Camry.  If he had decided on the Altima, he would have gotten the 4-banger.
To be fair, Nissan does have a relatively potent 2.5L.  And I wonder if Nissan's CVT is dulling the response of the V6.

I know it doesn't apply to the world of Camry's but the sound/feel of a 4 cylinder isn't half as nice as a raspy 6.
