Pet Peeve of the day : left lane jackasses
« on: September 28, 2011, 09:40:26 pm »
Driving down highway, this jackass merges from right, moves to all the way left and goes exactly 100 when me and other traffic in middle lane is moving faster than that.

Hate a-holes like that.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

That's one of my faves (or peeves) as well. I have been thinking of getting this or one that says "No Brakes"; but then that would call for the offending peever to actually look in their rear view mirror.
Richard - that's my opinion and I stand by it.

Come on now, you should realize by now that that is perfectly normal...on this continent.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!

A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

That is why you need one or more of the following:

1) A car that looks like a undercover cruiser (Crown Vic with dog dish)
2) Gobs of reserve HP and TQ  to distance yourself from morons quickly. (The G8 GT was awesome for this)
3) An intimidating car grill  with really bright DRLS and high power aux Halogens (did you know the LR3 uses full power xenons as the DRL?) ;D

re #3.    I don't  think that you can run HID bulbs at any output but the rated output. That is: either the arc is struck in the bulb or it is not.  But you could use a third position  of the hi/lo shutter to let less light into the reflector for DRL use but certainly the GTI does not do that.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Hate a-holes like that.

Outside Toronto the 401 is typically three lanes in each direction. The right lane is supposedly for heavy trucks, other slow moving traffic, and for entering and exiting the highway - often via poorly engineered ramps. The center lane is theoretically a car cruising lane and a heavy truck passing lane.

It's not unusual to see a three-dozen strong transport truck convoy in the center lane, all straining at their 105 kp/h governors, with several transport trucks in the hammer lane trying to pass them at a nosebleed-inducing 106 kp/h - which will often require ten miles or more to accomplish.

The OPP staked out on overpasses and in chase cars, radar enhanced cash registers anxiously scanning for arch-criminals in passenger cars doing 110 kp/h, do NOTHING.

The 401 through Southwestern Ontario to Toronto is as described. Ninety percent of the U.S. transport trucks are going to or from the GTA, some go on to Oshawa. Weekends are actually better.

Cobourg is a nice place. Have family there. Cottagers passing through in the summer, some transport trucks cutting through Canada to Quebec, and Indians on booze and cigarette runs. The McGuinty OPP can't figure out where the gosh-darn contraband cigarettes are coming from, but every high school kid knows.

What is this GTA you speak of? That is an old 80's Trans Am IIRC.

Wasn't it like 1927 the Senators last time won a Stanley Cup?  :)

Got stuck behind an old lady who wouldn't turn left into a side street at a T intersection.   She came to a stop on the main road signaling a left turn.  There was no on-coming traffic or pedestrians so it looked safe to turn.   There was a bunch of cars on the side street at its STOP sign waiting to turn left.  We all sat there for a few minutes wondering what's going on.  She had the right of way.  Eventually we gave her some honking encouragement and she finally turned abeit very slowly.
