InsideLine has went below 10 mpg IIRC with their long-term Traverse.  I can't believe the prices these things can reach with options...50k$  :o

Depreciation must be dramatic.  The Buick Enclave at least looks the price.  The Chevy...not so much.  And it's still smaller inside than a well-equipped 32k$ minivan, despite the huge size.  I parked my Odyssey next to an Enclave, and the Buick dwarfed the van.

Here is one for $60,000 plus HST  :o

I have a 2008 enclave awd, without the direct injection and i average 10-11 on the highway(The worst I ever had was 12.8 and that was with seven people and luggage shoved in every possible spot) with lots of passing, hills, and going 120.  . At 100 with a light foot its no trouble to get around nine, even eight in flatter areas.

who buys a awd 7 passenger rig with cargo space and expects it to be a miracle on gas, beats my suburban for sure.

also, make a van with a rear suspension that can handle three people in the back along with a ton of luggage and not drag the ground, add awd, and make it look good. wait, thats my enclave  ;)

The Enclave's trunk has 20 cu.ft. capacity behind the 3rd row ... same as a Honda Fit, half that of a minivan, like the good-looking Sienna awd  ;)

for reference, my ET has 24.3 cu.ft. behind the back seats...of course, i don't have a 3rd row of seats though.

Many cars outdo 20 cu.ft., indeed.  My significant other loves the look of the Enclave, but I find very amusing that the Fit has the exact same trunk volume  :)

We are a family of five, so we need a big car / small car combo ... who knows, we could end-up with an Enclave and a Fit Sport and share coordinated luggage  ;D

BTW, my favourite of the GM trio was the fourth one: the Saturn Outlook.  It had a simple interior, with a very elegant IP, more in tune with import buyers.

Name a car that outdos 20 cu ft. behind a third row seat. For example a Mazda 5 has 3.9 cu ft behind the third seat or less than 20% of the Traverse. :P

Comparing apples to apples the cargo room of the fit behind the rear seat is 585 L while the Enclave is 1912L, almost 4 times as much....

That's a good point about vehicles with a 3rd row - easy to have lots of cargo space when you only seat 5.  But the Mazda 5 is a misleading example - for some reason, Mazda only measures the cargo volume up to the window and not the total volume.  So they claim something like 112 L with all seats up, and 460 L with the 5th & 6th seats down.  Yet the real volumes (measured to the roof) are easily double that.  Still far less than a Traverse, but not nearly the difference the numbers would suggest.  Really dumb move by Mazda, in my mind - obviously families are concerned with the total cargo volume, and based on the "specs" alone would think that the Mazda 5 has less cargo room than a jetta sedan...

What is the lift-over height on the GM triplets?  That's another area where a minivan truly does excel - not just total cargo volume, but ease of loading because the load floor is relatively low to the ground.

Hmmmm.   I think that measuring cargo room in a wagon/suv/hatch only up to the window should be the standard. For the obvious safety and total vehicle load reasons.  If you want to load to the roof ( or beyond) buy a pickup truck or a proper van like a Sprinter.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Unless I am mistaken the cargo volumes for the Traverse etc are also up to the glass area as well so the comparision should be valid.

Kia Sedona, Dodge GC, Chrysler T & C, Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, Nissan Quest are all "cars" that easily exceed 20 cu.ft. behind 3rd row.  My Enclave brochure states 20 cu.ft behind 3rd row, and it does look like half the trunk of my Odyssey, rated at a solid 40 cu.ft. with all seats up.

That is a minivan list. ;) Nothing mini about them  and I don't think what the OP had in mind (mentioned Fit etc)

Yes the minivan is the space king, you won't hear me argue that.

If I remember right, the SAE measurement for cargo area was the area directly behind the rear seats, not the area up to the roof line. That's not to say that manufacturers always advertise the SAE numbers. The standard has been revised a few times, and maybe that has changed.

Ford and Toyota got into a tiff a few years ago over the cargo area of the Sequoia and the Expedition. Toyota was playing a bit fast and loose with their interpretation of the SAE J1100. They weren't including the area occupied by the non-removable, vertically folded second row seats. Ford's seats folded flat and didn't interfere with the cargo volume. Battle of the measuring tapes, and just as interesting as it sounds.

i wouldn't say that...but if you are looking for something in its class, it is tough to beat...my friend wanted to buy one and but ended up with a Caravan because they needed to tow a small camping trailer.

What we are looking at is a Traverse.

The powertrain is what turned me off of the ET entirely... the rest of the car is great, but that powertrain, yuck. No thanks.

The powertrain is what turned me off of the ET entirely... the rest of the car is great, but that powertrain, yuck. No thanks.

If you tried it with the 4AT, you probably have a point - but it's actually okay with the 5MT.  The old beta 2.0L is certainly no wunder-engine, and is the weakest (no pun intended) part of the vehicle.  It doesn't sound great, and certainly doesn't have top-end pull like a Honda VTEC.  But it does pull OK at low and mid RPMs. Load it up with passengers and cargo (of course what it is meant for!) and it is underpowered though.  Which simply means more fun rowing the gears then!

What I really wanted was the Focus powertrain in the ET body.  Wait, no 6MT for the Focus... Okay, the Focus ST powertrain in the ET body!  Or better yet, the Focus ST powertrain in the Focus wagon body, and available in Canada!  Hmmm, where have I seen that (on this site!) before?  Might as well hope for a Traverse that gets 7 L/100 km while I'm at it...they're about equally likely
